Added information[change source]

Hello, I saw your page about Chinese New Year. and I find that there were some information that I would like to add on it. I have edited some paragraphs, references and some pictures. Would you like me to add it? Thank you. 16chseld 405 (talk) 00:40, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there's no need to seek permission from other editors to add content. No one owns any article on Wikipedia. If your teacher is okay with you adding the content, then please feel free to do so. Chenzw  Talk  03:25, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Too many[change source]

Don't use too many images, a few good images is all that is needed to show what the article is about. Wikipedia is based mainly on text. A Den Jentyl Ettien Avel Dysklyver (talk) 23:14, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing your concerns here instead of just my talk page.
You're not even a little correct about that. Wikipedia is absolutely geared towards using tables and images to support articles. Thorough illustration is actually necessary for Good Articles. This is not a print encyclopedia and space is not an issue, only relevance. This article follows the important policies: images are fairly small and relevant to the text; they have accurate captions; they are only along a single side of the text (not on both sides, sandwiching it); and the galleries (where needed) follow the section and consist of a single line of relevant images.
Now, that's the actual policy and it serves most readers. We still want you to be happy. There are ways to hide the images for you in your preferences, if you personally prefer not to see them. You can look for yourself, ask people at the "Simple talk" section, or I can walk you through it on your talk page if you like. — Mr Spear (talk) 00:54, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not enough[change source]

Obviously images can be switched out. I think the photos from LA are quite good but it may be undue focus to have so many when there are, e.g., no images of the New Year fireworks shows in a major Chinese city like Beijing, Shanghai, or Chongqing. Some things we should add, if there's anything at commons:

  • This image, if there's any way to load fair use pictures to the Simple Wikipedia (it can't go to Commons);
  • Something about the Chinese community in Brunei, which Commons doesn't have at the moment;
  • An image of the animals of the Chinese zodiac, if the section becomes long enough for it to fit without pushing the other images down;
  • An image of the wishing tree in Singapore, if the section becomes long enough for it to fit, or if it's better than one of the images we have up now;
  • An image of one of the CCTV galas, if any are in the public domain;
  • An image of people gathered at one of China's temple fairs for the Chinese New Year;
  • This beautiful image if the Malaysian section gets long enough that there's room for it;
  • An image of one of the Malaysian oranges with someone's phone number, assuming it's out of date and not an issue to share online, or the ceremony where they throw them;
  • More images from Category:Chinese New Year by country, especially this hilarious duck, if the section gets long enough to fit them or they're important enough for a country to have its own section;*
  • A few more images of the food, unless other food images get moved down the page to make room for more local photographs.

*The photos should be good photos, though. Someone apparently likes to document hundreds of random people walking on the street in Paris every year, but that doesn't really need to be included here. The Ukraine, on the other hand, has a very unusual spin on the holiday...  — Mr Spear (talk) 01:40, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
