Simplify title?[change source]

Is there a better title for this article?

At some point, a better option may be suggested. --Horeki (talk) 17:01, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What is being compared[change source]

The concept here seems valid, but I have no clue which comparison this page is about. It could be useful either way. The two ways I see are:

  1. System vs system: Comparing the current (1905) system of regions vs the Han system
  2. Comparing the actual (current) regions against each other. ie size, population, sources of economy, amount of national power both current and historic, etc.

At current use, this seems to be just a list of what makes up each region. It isn't even clear which region is in which system. 9 regions are listed and 8 regions make up the current system (with the islands being a confusing part of "are they a region or a sub-region"). There seems a strong tendency to compare the regions under the Gokishichidō to the modern regions, but this gets confused as the term Gokishichidō is not even used until the "other pages" section. The page seems to lean to presenting how the modern system differs from the Gokishichidō system, but the intro doesn't bring forth a strong, focused statement that this is what the article is about. If the changes from one to the other are the main point, the basic history of both systems should be explained first. The reader should be presenting with the basis - This is a comparision between the modern regions of japan (and here is the basic info on the what currently defines a region of Japan) and the older system which was used, the Gokishichidō. (and here is the informtion on Gokishichidō}. Followed by the data on what is (today) and what was (the old system).

Added information on the economic and political impacts of the changes and the reasons given for these changes would be nice, but looking at the sources, I can understand that much of this type of info on these changes is likely impossible to find and so can't be found to be included. (Japanese culture seems to want to keep this type of information quiet so official reasons are commonly non-existant.)

I think the key pointa here are to focused on one specific topic, make certain you tell the reader exactly what is being discussed and provide the information appropriate to getting that topic across to the reader. The en: article is useless as I have no clue what is even being compared.. hopefully we can do better than that. --Creol(talk) 06:47, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I realise this is a late reply to this thread left years ago, but even looking at the article today the language seems complex. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:19, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
