A few errors...

While in a pinch, a Windows user might write a 'batch' with Notepad, Notepad is not a programmer's editor.

No programmers actually use Notepad for writing programs, or at least none that have any other text editor available to them. They use a wide variety of text editors, 'integrated development environments', etc. to make programs.

I'm not sure how to address this, other than remove the detail. The 'Notepad' reference will be lost on a Macintosh, UNIX or Linux user who has not used Windows (and there are such people), and there are many 'programmer's editors' to choose to cite. Some such editors are specialized for a given computer language, while others attempt to support many.

Not all languages are compiled, either. Many scripting languages (such as those built into command shells, Javascript, BASIC, etc.) do not require compilation (though some actually do compile scripts to simplified opcodes at runtime).

So compilation is a sticky detail to add to this topic. As a top-level overview, it is a poor thing to introduce.

Not even all programming involves 'programming languages'. While rare today, some 8 bit CPUs such as the Z80 or 6502 had few (if any) tools on many platforms, and programmers would literally type in opcodes directly. Admittedly, the opcodes could be considered a 'high level language' compared to microcodes. And not too long before that, some computers came with rows of DIP switches to set the binary representation of opcodes one bit at a time and 'enter' it into an address.

The earliest general purpose all-electronic computer (ENIAC) was programmed by manipulating switches and plugging cables into sockets.
