Talk:Edict of Nantes

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"King Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes[1] and made Catholicism the religion of France in 1629."

This is, I believe, factually incorrect. Louis XIV was born in 1638 and, as far as I'm aware, revoked the treaty in the late (not early) 17th century. Encyclopedia Britannica gives the date as 1685.

I've never edited a wikipedia page before and am unsure as to what to do. (If someone can make the change for me or provide me with some help, that would be lovely.)

  • Quite so. The date had no doubt been vandalised. The Edict of Nantes was formally abolished in 1685, though it had not enforced for some years. The effect of actually abolishing it was that Huguenots could be killed if they would not change their religion, and many were killed. I have corrected the text. Thank you.
