Well, yes, some photos did have refs. How did they creep in!? The problem with pages like this is that people add examples without rationale. One aspect the page doesn't cover adequately is the way, at certain times and places, hair style is strictly regimented. The free-for-all we have now would have been impossible in many societies. It's better to have text, and put references to support it. The previous refs are all preserved in the history, and might be used as anyone sees fit: I probably won't get round to editing the page again for a year or more...
