domino transplants[change source]

The sentence "The new heart is taken from a dead person who doesn't need it any more." isn't quite correct. Sometimes you have a case with two patients, patient A and patient B. Patient A might have a healthy heart but sick lungs, and patient B might have a sick heart. There is a case called a "domino transplant where a dead person's organs are donated. It goes like this:

1. Patient A's healthy heart and sick lungs are removed in a heart-lung transplant. Patient A gets the healthy heart and lungs from a dead donor. The sick lungs are thrown away. Patient A's original healthy heart is given to patient B.

2. Patient B's sick heart is removed and thrown away. Patient B gets Patient A's original healthy heart in a heart transplant.

I just need to figure out how to word this in more simple language. --Kyoko 22:23, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
