  • This is far too sweeping, and based on one source only. What is it trying to do? I've seen books on African tribes written in the 1950s which are quite sympathetic towards the people described. I've just re-watched David Attenborough's account of his early trip to New Guinea, which is also very sympathetic in tone. Of course, there are also some crude dismissals of tribal peoples. There are indeed some wicked things which have been done by tribal peoples, as there are amongst civilised peoples. As I say, I'm lost as to where this can be going. I've been to Arab countries, and they do often have bazaars, mosques, belly dancers!! Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:01, 28 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I mostly removed the passage again (was a translation from DEWP). Even if we accept that what people supposedly wanted to see in such exhibitions were stereotypes, that showed that the visitor was the "peak of evolution" (another misguided thought), I guess there's a reason these kinds of exhivbition stopped around 1940, and there was no success re-establishing them after WW2. Yes, the "Bazaar" is the common form of a market, in these countries, and its clear that they build mosques, as most of them are Muslims. I think we can leave what is there now.
