Misunderstanding[change source]

A previous editor had misunderstood a comment about lead crystal. The lead in lead crystal glasses comes out of the glass so slowly that it is of no account.

But if paints are applied to crockery, the paint (which is fired on) does eventually wear off under regular use. If the paints are lead paints this might be a danger to users. Therefore painted crockery needs to have no or very little lead content in the paint. This has been understood for many years, and it limits the colours which can be used to decorate porcelain crockery. Macdonald-ross (talk) 14:12, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
