I can't get the normal square bracket bookends to work to create cross-links to reference articles in the main Wikipedia.

How do I get them to work. Is the only way to use <ref> ? — This unsigned comment was added by Sfist (talk • changes).

@Sfist: generally speaking, we do not create cross-links to other Wikipedias, even if the corresponding article does not exist here (for example, this red link: Pieter van Musschenbroek). We leave them as red links instead. However, if you ever find a legitimate need to create a cross-link (what you mentioned earlier is not a legitimate reason to link to EN), the syntax is: [[:en:Article name here|how you want it to be displayed]] or [[:en:Article name here]].
