Explanation of changes[change source]

In general, to make the list more useful.

  • 1. Shorter, for example by leaving out many igneous terms of little use except to an expert.
  • 2. Better aligned to enWP e.g. by indicating the class of rock by initials.
  • 3. including enWP definitions; simplification later.

There are three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. An igneous rock is formed by cooled magma that hardens. A sedimentary rock is tiny rocks in rivers and streams that loose water in them and form bigger rocks when more rocks come together. A metamorphic rock is a softer rock with a lot of minerals in it and the minerals make the rock softer (there is also different types of fluids).
