Some notes for simplification:

The Princess of Conti by marriage, she died in childbirth at the age of twenty.
These two clauses aren't actually dependent of each other. So you can separate them into two sentences to make it easier for the reader. Lower the number of verbs in each sentence.
She became the Princess of Conti by marriage. She died in childbirth at the age of twenty.
Another one:
She grew up with her younger sister Élisabeth, Mademoiselle de Montpensier with a convent education.
To:
She grew up with her younger sister Élisabeth, Mademoiselle de Montpensier. They were taught at a convent.
In her youth, she was said to have been a very sensitive child and would grow up to be one of the more beautiful of the Regent's daughters.
When she was young, she was said to have been a very sensitive child. She grew up to be one of the more beautiful of the Regent's daughters.
  • There will be many places where there is no simple word available, or where replacing the word might change the meaning to much. In such cases, linking words, either to articles here or entries in the Simple English Wiktionary, might help. Avoid too many links, though. Another way is to explain words in parethetical notes. For example:
You might explain her maternal grand father as her maternal grand father (mother's father)...
  • Also try to avoid phrases that require a cultural familiarity with the English language, such as idioms. For example:
Despite her being another girl, (1 of 7 overall), her birth was not really greeted with the joy that had met her brother, Louis d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans.
A reader who has trouble with English will probably get confused by joy, an emotion, having greeted a person. Instead, try:
Her parents were not as happy at her birth as they had been when her brother, Louis d'Orléans, was born. She was one of seven girls overall.

These are just some examples to help you get into practice. You will probably find a lot more when you go through the article. I personally find translating from the English Wikipedia to be rather difficult. When I do it, I tend to do a bit at a time. You will probably find it easier if you start with shorter articles. Palais Royal is a really nice size for getting started. If you need any help, let me know. Osiris (talk) 04:09, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
