Notes for simplifying[change source]

Complex words/phrases: initiation, ritual quality, suitable

The article links to Relationship. That is a dab page and should be disambiguated.

The expression "to ask for someone's hand in marriage" may not be clear to our readers. It should be replaced with something more literal. No one is literally asking for the hand of another person: they want the whole person.

The article says "it is traditional for a man to ask permission from a woman's father". It doesn't say what he's asking for permission for: you left out that part of the enwiki sentence.

I have changed initiation to start and suitable to right. I erased ritual quality. Also relinked relationship to interpersonal relationship. Lastly, I changed to ask for someone's hand in marriage into to marry them. Is that good? Angela Maureen (talk) 10:36, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Deborahjay took care of the article for me. Is the article ready? Angela Maureen (talk) 13:51, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, @September 1988:, that overestimates what I did. For the (only) two edits I made, see the edit summary that describes my changes in general. Do check all the changes I made by choosing "Compare selected versions" in "View history"to see the exact "before and after" versions side-by-side. For the first three paragraphs - your original and my "expanded" content - need references to show reliable sources of the information. We see at the top of the article in the English Wikipedia: it's been tagged for lacking citations. So once the language here is simple enough, the next step is finding and adding citations for the information. Also, I agree that the page now is unclear about the "other" - i.e., non-Western - cultures (the same issue is tagged on the English WP page). -- Deborahjay (talk) 14:25, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
