Problems[change source]

What are the problems with the article and complex words? Angela Maureen (talk) 20:46, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Words/phrases that need simplifying or linking: gene mutations, disrupt, absent, run in families --Auntof6 (talk) 03:18, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I changed certain complexes to less complex words. Something else? Angela Maureen (talk) 03:55, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, Angela, but those changes didn't make the text less complex. "Mutations in certain genes" is even a little more complex than "gene mutations". (We have an article on gene mutation, by the way.) The other words substituted were just as complex as the original ones. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:18, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I linked gene mutations. Anything else? Angela Maureen (talk) 17:36, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the other complex words that weren't taken care of. Now they are: interfere, not present, run in families. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:54, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Removed interfere, not present. What's a simpler way for saying "run in families"? Angela Maureen (talk) 23:52, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Removing the part that says "not present" is probably OK, because it's more or less covered by the sentence after it. However, the text that had "disrupt/interfere" in it is a pretty important piece of information, so that should stay. The point about running in families could be removed, because that's implied by the earlier statement that says it's hereditary. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:49, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The text with interfere or disrupt, I just do not know simple ways of saying that. Is there a simple version for that? Angela Maureen (talk) 05:30, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
I'm thinking about that one. The enwiki article isn't specific about exactly what happens, so it's hard to find an accurate word. I'm watching this page, so you don't need to ask me about it on my talk page, too.

By the way, when you reply on a talk page, please indent your replies one level more than the text you're replying to. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:46, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think "interfere" might be as simple as I can think of right now. I'll make that change and clean up one or two other things and move the article back.
When you create articles about scientific things like this, please check them against Wikipedia:Basic English combined wordlist to see what words might be complex. If there are words in the article that are not in that list, and you can't find simpler words, you can always ask for help. IMO, it's better to consult with someone before creating the article than after. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:45, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
