What is needed to bring this up to VGA[change source]
- The plot summary is full of typos, bad grammar and very poor expression.
- Introduction needs to be longer. Don't rely on the info box to provide the information about important things like the composer's name. You have said it won an oscar for costume. Who won the oscar for costume? Things like that should be in the introduction.
- Summary. The detailed plot summary which retells the entire story is a spoiler. But it is, in this article, the only way that a reader has to know what the story is about. That is not good. This detailed retelling of the story should be further down the page where someone who doesn't want to know the whole story, doesn't have to read it.
- What is needed is a synopsis that is a little longer and offers more explanation than the intro.
Background. The background needs to come near the beginning of the article. Here are some of the things that I want to know-
- Did Baz L. do anything that is a significant forerunner to this movie?
- What is the Moulin Rouge anyway?
- Why is it set in the 1890s?
- Who is H T-L when he's at home? (or even when he isn't)
- There is some dance... just prompt my memory will you... like, it's really famous, but there is no mention of it in this article!
- There is reference in the summary to "Bohemians". Do these people come from Bohemia or what? If the do come from Bohemia, then why is this English guy a Bohemian.
- Then what has it got to do with "la Boheme"? ....
- There is a mention of a windmill. What has the windmill got to do with it?
- Next v. important question.... is this movie really set in the 1890s? Has Baz been true to the period? If not, in what ways has he deviated? Why? What is the effect of what he has done?
- Are there any other movies on this sort of subject? Similar or different in treatment?
- Apart from the oscars, what things are generally admired, or criticised about this movies?
- How does this movie reflect the date when it was made? What was happening at the time that might have influenced this movie? Does it make any political, or social statements or is it just entertainment.
- Is it radical in any way?
- Is it really unusual?
- Has this movie influenced other movie-makers?
These are the sorts of things that a reader wants to know about a movie. These things tell about the movie in a way that is more meaningful than just telling the whole plot. A good plot summary does not make a Very Good Article.
