Simplification[change source]
I think the previous text was far from simple, it used many, many words not listed in BE_1500. It was also not correct, a patent does not make it illegal for someone to copy the invention, it only allows the patentee to stop the infringer (a subtle but important difference, the former implies that the government rather than the patentee would take action). I therefore took the liberty to almost completely rewrite the article. It is now fairly short, but I think there is not so much more to say about patents in simple terms? 80.60.102.202 (talk) 19:31, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
