Well I haven't contributed to this before so I don't want to just change it, but as I remember the mnemonic (vintage appx. 1963) it goes like this:

Mary's violet eyes make John stay up nights praying.

Also--it does rather make a bit more sense this way, doesn't it? I mean, what's the "period" doing in there? Seems like an afterthought.

Search engine hits are heavily against the version I recollect, but I would caution against using pure SE counts as the only argument, since I suspect many of these are copied from each other, and thus should really only be counted once. In particular, we could have a skewed count as the perceived authority of Wiki causes others to copy the citation, whether it be correct or not.

I can't resolve this, but leave it here for others to reflect, and perhaps, comment on.

Planets[change source]

there are 8 1/2 planets. (pluto is a dwarf planet)

-mercury -venus -earth -mars -jupiter -saturn -uranus -neptune -pluto (dwarf planet)

little saying to remember it...

"my very eager mother just served us nine pickles"

or without pluto...

"my very eager mother just served us nuts"— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.209.246 (talkcontribs) 13:44, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's mostly true, but there are at least five dwarf planets: Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Haumea, and Makemake. 12.149.182.252 (talk) 14:24, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
