If they really are the same thing, they should be merged into the more simple term riff. There have been many court cases over claims that riffs had been copied by other composers, which throws a light on how difficult it is to define terms which superficially seem quite obvious. I think the two terms are describing the same, or a very similar, phenomenon. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:06, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
