Propagandized? Or Forgotten?[change source]

When I was a kid (circa 1990) we were taught that this was the anthem of East Germany. Is that because of the USSR association with East Germany? or is there another?

Also we were taught instead of

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free, Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong. O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people, To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Sing to the Motherland, Union Forever, Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong. Thy Might created from all generations Loyal and true we will ever stand!

Is there another version, or did this get Americanized / Propagandized to omit Lenin?

Amazing the clarity the Internet brought just a few years later.
