Stomata are typically found in plant leaves but can also be found in some stems. Specialized cells known as guard cells surround stomata and function to open and close stomatal pores. Stomata allow a plant to take in carbon dioxide, which is needed for photosynthesis. These guard cells control the opening and closing of stomata. There are two main functions of stomata which are as follows: Stomata helps in gaseous exchange i.e. intake of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen. Stomata facilitates the process of transpiration in plants.
