Why I changed the definition[change source]

The article reads:

A trojan horse is a special type of malware that pretends to do a certain thing, but in reality, it does something else, (...)

This is false. Sometimes a Trojan horse does exactly what it claims to do but it also does something else. This is because its real hidden purpose is to perform malicious actions in the background. So the only criterion is the presence of a hidden malicious purpose. By the way, the Webster's definition "a seemingly useful computer program that contains concealed instructions(...)" is wrong. A trojan can be very useful for doing something and harmful to the user data. The definitions in most of the other dictionaries are wrong either.

Here is a decent definition from a very reliable source: "Trojan Horses are programs that disguise themselves as harmless and beneficial programs but instead have a hidden purpose that you are unaware of. " 85.193.252.19 (talk) 23:12, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
