Hysteria should link to an article on female sexuality. It was really just another name for a point in the menstrual cycle. It should also be explained that it was used as a code word for the thought that women were somehow 'lesser' than men. The term has fallen out of favor ever since the 1960's for obvious reasons. "Hysteria" is an archaic term for a psychological condition now known to be related to female sexual desire. The 'condition' is that women were being treated like sexual furniture!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cycle doesn't mention the controversy of the psychologists calling something normal in males and an adverse condition in females. Never mind that these are the same people who thought self stimulation even in private was a mental illness all the while, most teenagers were doing it because they weren't allowed to have sex for moral reasons.

Also, can someone double check on the laws - most of those states do allow you to purchase them but sometimes have a legal catch like calling it something else or putting it under a sheet or requiring a signature affirming they're for education use only. Quite an educational experience for first-timers! A more detailed legal status in various locations may be useful.
