This is a documentation subpage for Template:Canada census.

This template is used to provide a summary of selected census figures released by Statistics Canada for the 2016, 2011, and optionally 2006 census years. This template has been designed to allow for future census years to be added without the need for changing existing template usages (except to add the new census data of course).

Field	Description
location	Optional field to specify location or census area. If left blank, the page name appears here.
notes	Optional notes for census info, such as corrections and updates. Avoid excessive long notes, because demographic explanations or further info should be added in paragraph format to the actual article.
2016
2016_population	Population in 2016
2016_pop_delta	Population delta percentage from 2011. Use +/- signs.
2016_land_area	2001 land area in square kilometres. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2016_pop_density	Population density for 2016. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2016_median_age	Median age in 2016.
2016_median_age_m	Median age of males in 2016.
2016_median_age_f	Median age in females in 2016.
2016_total_pvt_dwell	Total private dwellings in 2016.
2016_mean_hh_income	Median household income.
2016_access_date=	Date when 2016 census data was first accessed for use in this template. Use the MDY format. If not specified, no access date will be displayed.
2011
2011_population	Population in 2011
2011_pop_delta	Population delta percentage from 2006. Use +/- signs.
2011_land_area	2011 land area in square kilometres. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2011_pop_density	Population density for 2011. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2011_median_age	Median age in 2011.
2011_median_age_m	Median age of males in 2011.
2011_median_age_f	Median age in females in 2011.
2011_total_pvt_dwell	Total private dwellings in 2011.
2011_mean_hh_income	Median household income in 2010 as included in the 2011 census figures (though mean, aka average, and median are both available from the 2011 National Household Survey, only median is available for 2006 and 2001 census for comparison purposes [parameter should be renamed accordingly]).
2011_access_date=	Date when 2011 census data was first accessed for use in this template. Use the MDY format. If not specified, no access date will be displayed.

2006_population	Population in 2006
2006_pop_delta	Population delta percentage from 2001. Use +/- signs.
2006_land_area	2006 land area in square kilometres. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2006_pop_density	Population density for 2006. Will be automatically converted to also show square miles.
2006_median_age	Median age in 2006.
2006_median_age_m	Median age of males in 2006.
2006_median_age_f	Median age in females in 2006.
2006_total_pvt_dwell	Total private dwellings in 2006.
2006_mean_hh_income	Median household income in 2005 as included in the 2006 census figures (only median is available in the 2006 census [parameter should be renamed accordingly]).
2006_access_date=	Date when 2006 census data was first accessed for use in this template. Use the MDY format. If not specified, no access date will be displayed.

All parameters are optional. If the 2006_population is not set or is empty, the 2006 column will not appear.

By default, the box will be located at the left margin of the article. The location can be overridden by specifying the margin parameter which overrides the CSS margin property.
