Template:Infobox swimmer/doc

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Intended uses[change source]

This infobox template is intended to be used in articles about current and former competition swimmers. This infobox template is not intended to be used for articles about former competition swimmers who are primarily notable as competition swimming coaches. Articles about American college swimming coaches use Template:Infobox college coach, the uniform template for college coaches in all American college sports. Infobox college coach may be adapted for swimming coaches of other nationalities; if it is inappropriate for other coaches for any reason, consider using Template:Infobox person.

Parameter instructions[change source]

Parameter Description
name The common name of the swimmer.
image A photograph of the swimmer. Type the name of the image file without adding "Image:" or "File:" before it, nor wikilinking it.
image_size The image size. Only use this parameter if the image is less than 220 pixels in width. If so, then indicate the image's respective width in pixels, like this: "image_size=200".
alt Alternative text describing the image displayed for visually impaired readers.
caption A brief caption for the image displayed.
native_name The swimmer's name in his or her native language, if different than name.
native_name_lang ISO 639-2 code, e.g., "fre" or "fra" for French. If more than one, use lang in |native_name= instead.
birth_name The birth name of the swimmer, if different than name.
full_name The full name of the swimmer, if different than name and birth_name.
nickname The swimmer's common nickname(s) set off with quote marks. If there is more than one nickname, list the names alphabetically and separate them with commas. All nicknames must be verified by reliable sources per WP:V, WP:RS and WP:BLP; otherwise, they should be removed.
nationality The swimmer's nationality. Complicated situations of nationality and multiple citizenship should be explained in the main body text of the article, if relevant, not in the infobox. If the swimmer has competed in international championships such as the Olympics, FINA world championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, and Pan Pacific Championships, use the "national team" parameter instead of the "nationality" parameter.
national_team The national swimming team for which the swimmer competes in international events. If the "national team" parameter is invoked, the "nationality" parameter is excluded. This parameter is only used for swimmers who have represented their country as a member of their national team in international competition such as the Olympic Games, FINA world championships, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, and Pan Pacific Championships. A flag icon, representing the swimmer's national team, is used in this parameter; for example, "USA", renders a 7-pixel U.S. flag and the words "United States".
birth_date The swimmer's birth date. Use yyyy for living swimmers; use yyyy for deceased swimmers.
birth_place The swimmer's place of birth. Note that this is not necessarily the same as the swimmer's "hometown." Birth place should be wiki-linked to the Wikipedia article about the town or city where the swimmer was born.
death_date The swimmer's death date, if applicable. Use .
death_place The swimmer's place of death, if applicable. Death place should be wiki-linked to the Wikipedia article about the town or city where the swimmer died.
height The swimmer's height. If the swimmer is American, state measurements in feet and inches, otherwise state measurements in centimetres or metres. The infobox will automatically display the appropriate conversion within parentheses. The height parameter also accepts conversions done via the Convert template, such as "6 ft" or "1.70 m". For additional documentation and examples, see Template:Infobox sportsperson § height.
weight The swimmer's weight. If the swimmer is American, state measurements in pounds, otherwise state measurements in kilograms. The infobox will automatically display the appropriate conversion within parentheses. The weight parameter also accepts conversions done via the Convert template, such as "120 lb" or "72 kg". For additional documentation and examples, see Template:Infobox sportsperson § weight.
website Official website only. Unofficial websites should be placed under ==External links== in the body of the article. Use URL as in examplesite.com.
Added parameters for swimmers
strokes The swimmer's primary competitive stroke. If there is more than one stroke, list them alphabetically and separate them by commas. Strokes should be wiki-linked to the relevant Wikipedia articles.
classification The swimmer's disability swimming classifications. For para-swimmers only.
club The name of the swimming club to which the swimmer belongs.
collegeteam The name of the college team to which the swimmer belongs or belonged. The college team should be wiki-linked to the Wikipedia article about the college team or sports program.
coach The name of the swimmer's current coach, if the coach is notable per WP:N or otherwise noteworthy within the national or international swimming community. The swimmer's coach may be wiki-linked if a Wikipedia article about the coach exists.
Parameters for medal templates
medaltemplates All templates from the medal record infobox except MedalTableTop and MedalBottom.

Use the normal order (see the medal templates documentation):
Men's swimming
Sweden
Olympic Games
World Championsips (LC)
World Championships (SC)
European Championships (LC)
Pan Pacific Championships
2008 Beijing
2008 Beijing
2008 Beijing

show-medals If "show-medals=yes", the medal table is displayed. Otherwise, it is hidden and will only be shown if the "show" link is used. It is recommended for swimmers with large numbers of medals that this parameter should be toggled "no" because of the disproportionate amount of article space the extended infobox will require.

Example[change source]

Microformat[change source]

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates[change source]

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if birth date, or birth date and age are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use URL.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes[change source]

hCard uses HTML classes including:

 • adr
