Usage[change source]

This template has a large number of parameters, some of which, for historical reasons have duplicates that have been deprecated. Please note that parameter names are case-sensitive.

Only one parameter is required:

  • name - The name that will appear as the title of the infobox. Please do not change the colour of the text here, do so in background below.

The remaining parameters are as follows (in the order that they will appear in the template output):

  • background - the background colour of name parameter, either as a "colour name" (e.g. forestgreen), a hexadecimal value (e.g. #0093cf), or a colour template (e.g. #{{C2C colour}}). If the background is dark, please change the text colour by appending the CSS color selector. (e.g. background = black;color:white or background = #806040;color:#ffffdd ). Note that quotation marks are not permitted in these CSS statements. If |background= is present, but blank, the default is white; but if this parameter is omitted entirely, the default background colour is #eee.
  • image - The filename for the infobox image.
  • imagealt - Alternative text for image.
  • imagesize - The size (width) of the images in pixels (as in imagesize=200). If |imagesize= is present, but blank the image will appear full size; but if this parameter is omitted entirely, the default size is 229 pixels wide.
  • caption - The image caption that will be displayed.
  • interiorimage - The filename for the second infobox image.
  • interiorimagealt - Alternative text for interiorimage.
  • interiorcaption - The second image caption that will be displayed.
  • service - The dates that the vehicles were in service, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • assembly - where it was produced (city, country)
  • designer - if another company designed the vehicle
  • ordernumber - The Order number or Lot number the vehicles were procured under.
  • factory - The factory at which the vehicles were made (if manufacturer had more than one factory).
  • family - The type or range of manufacturer’s vehicles that the vehicles comes from (e.g. British Rail Mark 3).
  • replaced - The vehicles that were replaced by these vehicles.
  • yearconstruction - The dates that the vehicles were under construction, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976). constructed also works
  • yearservice - The date that the vehicles first entered service.
  • refurbishment - The dates that the vehicles were refurbished, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • yearscrapped - The dates that the vehicles were scrapped, separated by an en dash (e.g. 1964–1976).
  • numberconstruction - The quantity of vehicles under construction. construction also works, but is deprecated.
  • numberbuilt - The quantity of vehicles manufactured. Built also works, but is deprecated.
  • numberservice - The quantity of vehicles in service.
  • numberpreserved - The quantity of vehicles preserved.
  • numberscrapped - The quantity of vehicles scrapped.
  • formation - The formation and/or length of a diesel or electric multiple unit.
  • diagram - The classification Diagram, or Plan assigned to the vehicles.
  • code - The design or TOPS code assigned to the vehicles.
  • fleetnumbers - The fleet numbers of the vehicles.
  • capacity - The capacity of the vehicles.
  • operator - The operator(s) of the vehicles, separated with line breaks (<br>) if more than one.
  • depots - The maintenance depots to which the vehicles were assigned.
  • lines - The lines or routes to which the vehicles were assigned.

Parameters below fall under the Specifications heading

  • carbody - The type of carbody construction used (e.g. spotwelded stainless steel).
  • trainlength - The total length of the train or unit. Please use {{convert}}. = convert}}.
  • carlength - The length of each vehicles (only those that differ). Please use {{convert}}.
  • width - The width of each vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • height - The height of each vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • floorheight - The height of the vehicles’ floor above the rail.
  • platformheight - Standard measurement is from top of the rail.
  • entrylevelorstep -
  • doors - The number and type of doors fitted.
  • art-sections - The number of coaches/power vehicles formed into an articulated trainset.
  • wheeldiameter - The diameter of the wheels (can be expressed new/worn)
  • wheelbase - The wheelbase of the train. State whether train, vehicle, bogie (truck), or bogie centers.
  • maxspeed - The maximum permitted speed of the vehicles – please use {{convert}}.
  • weight - The weight of the vehicles – please use {{convert}}. = convert}}.
  • axleload - The maximum axle load of the rail vehicle(s).
  • steep gradient - at per thousand or at per hundred %
  • traction - The traction system of the vehicles (if electric multiple unit).
  • engine - The prime mover(s) used in the vehicle (if diesel multiple unit or generator car).
  • enginetype - The type of engine(s)/prime mover(s)
  • cylindercount
  • cylindersize
  • traction motors -
  • poweroutput - The power output of the engine(s) used (if fitted). Power and powerout also work, but are deprecated.
