Template:Irish place name/doc

This is a documentation subpage for Template:Irish place name.
It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This template displays an Irish-language version of a place name and optionally and English-language translation of the Irish name. Example:

Code: {{Irish place name|Caisleán an Bharraigh|Castle of the Barry family}}
Result: Irish: Caisleán an Bharraigh, meaning "Castle of the Barry family"

The second parameter is optional. If it is not included then the article will be added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names. Example:

Code: {{Irish place name|Caisleán an Bharraigh}}
Result: Irish: Caisleán an Bharraigh

An additional optional parameter is no_translate. This can be invoked in order to stop unwanted pages being added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names.

For example, if the Irish- and English-language versions mean the same then there is no point in repeating this information. However, it would be inappropriate to add the page to Category:Untranslated Irish place names. In order to suppress, an article being automatically added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names, simply add no_translate=true when using the template. Example:
