Template:Representative/doc

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Purpose[change source]

{{Representative}} looks up information about a member of a representative body. When this information is replicated across many articles, corrections and updates become laborious. Gathering it together on a single wiki page (herein called a 'dataset') eases the maintenance burden.

Parameters[change source]

Positional parameters[change source]

  • The first positional parameter indicates which dataset to use for lookup.
  • The second positional parameter, usually a numeric value, indicates which district or seat.

Named parameters[change source]

  • format= to specify the display format (name of formatting template)
  • fmt= to specify the display format (shorthand)

Examples[change source]

  • {{Representative|nycd|1}}
displays the representative of New York's 1st congressional district in the default format:
Lee Zeldin (RShirley)
  • {{Representative|caad|2|format=Representative/format/nameonly}}
displays the representative of California's 2nd State Assembly district using {{Representative/format/nameonly}} for formatting:
Jim Wood
  • {{Representative|cacd|3|fmt=linked}}
displays the representative of California's 3rd congressional district using {{Representative/format/linked}} for formatting:
Kevin Kiley

Datasets[change source]

Updates and corrections to data (such as the representative's name or political affiliation) should be made to the "dataset template". There are six dataset templates:

California
Parameter value Scope Dataset template default fmt=
cacd current U.S. representatives from California {{Representative/current/California congressional}} us
caad current members of the California State Assembly {{Representative/current/California assembly}} linked
casd current members of the California State Senate {{Representative/current/California state senate}} linked
