The Mortal Storm is a 1940 American drama movie directed by Frank Borzage and based on the 1937 novel of the same name by Phyllis Bottome. It stars Margaret Sullivan, James Stewart, Robert Young, Robert Stack, Frank Morgan, Irene Rich, Ward Bond, Esther Dale and was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The movie shows the impact on Germans after Adolf Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany and a dictator.

A year after the film's release, Stewart began serving in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
