The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is an 2026 animated adventure comedy movie based on the 2007 video game and its 2010 sequel, as well as Nintendo's broader Mario franchise. It is the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) which was produced by Illumination and Nintendo, and distributed by Universal Pictures. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, the film stars an ensemble voice cast consisting of Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key reprising their roles from the first movie, with Benny Safdie, Donald Glover, Brie Larson, and Glen Powell joining the cast. In the movie, Mario and Luigi, and their friends adventure into outer space to rescue Princess Rosalina from Bowser Jr., Bowser's son, who plans to utilize her to conquer the galaxy.

Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa stated in May 2021 that Nintendo was interested in producing more animated films based on its properties if the then-untitled Mario film was successful. Illumination CEO and producer Chris Meledandri was asked about the possibility of a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie before the film's release in April 2023. Following its box office success, a new animated Mario film was announced to be in development at Illumination in March 2024, with Horvath and Jelenic returning as directors and Fogel as screenwriter.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premiered in Minami-za, Kyoto, Japan, on March 28, 2026, and was theatrically released in the United States on April 1. The film received mixed reviews from critics.

Young Rosalina and infant Peach are sisters who once lived together in outer space and have the shared ability to create nature and life as they were born from stardust. Once day, Rosalina sends Peach to the Mushroom Kingdom when their home is attacked by an unidentified enemy, and Peach grows up to become the kingdom's princess. Years later, an adult Rosalina raises the star-like species of Lumas as their mother on the Comet Observatory.[d] She's kidnapped by Bowser Jr., who plots to drain her power and use it to create a new planet for him and his father, Bowser, who was shrunk by an adult Peach and is imprisoned in her castle by fueling a universe-destroying cannon in his honor.

Meanwhile, brothers Mario and Luigi are hailed as heroes in the Mushroom Kingdom for defeating Bowser.[e] They're called to inspect a disturbance in the desert town Tosterena[f] where they meet and befriend Yoshi. They later attend Peach's birthday ceremony, where Mario gives Peach a new parasol. Mario has feelings for her but is too nervous to admit it. Having escaped from captivity, a Luma crashlands in the kingdom and asks Peach for her help; she and Toad accept much to the other Toads' chargin. While Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi take Peach's place in her abense, which includes rehabilitating a shrunken Bowser, Peach's castle is lifted into space by Bowser Jr.'s UFO. After a fight, the castle is accidentally dropped into the Honeyhive Kingdom,[d] where Bowser sacrifices his liberty to allow the three to enter the Gateway Galaxy[d] where Peach and Toad are. Bowser is revoked by the UFO, where he reunites with his son.

In the Galaxy Gateway, Peach and Toad's backpack is stolen by the monkey Ukiki, who takes it to Wart, the owner of its casino and leader of a criminal gang. Peach and Toad fight off Wart's henchmen and interrogate Wart for the reveal of Rosalina's location, the Space Junk Galaxy. After they reclaim the backpack and leave, Wart warns the Bowsers about Peach. Peach and Toad hire Fox McCloud, a pilot from another universe, to transport the group, but Bowser Jr. sends his spaceship to crashland into Fossil Falls and turns Mario and Luigi into babies with a Super Scope. Having bonded with the brothers, Bowser feels guilty, but Bowser Jr. convinces him to return to his role as king of the Koopas. Yoshi finds a Super Scope and returns the brothers and Toad, who also got turned into a baby, from a Tyrannosaurus.[f]

Luigi tests a radio, which is heard by the Lumas. They rescue them in the Comet Observatory, where Peach discovers her origins which she had forgotten. Mario and Peach attempt to sneak in but are caught and sent into a booby-trapped trench, which they escape from using the parasol. They confront Bowser, whom Mario drops into the lava moat below. Initially presumed dead, Bowser survives as a skeleton.[g] Luigi and Yoshi assist Mario and Peach in fighting the Bowsers with power-ups. While Bowser is defeated by Luigi using Bowser Jr.'s paintbrush to draw a character,[h] Bowser Jr. summons a dragon[i] that swallows him whole, but Mario rescues him. Using their power, Peach rescues and reunites with Rosalina. The castle is rebuilt and Peach kisses Mario as a thanks. McCloud sends the Bowsers to prison before heading home to his galaxy. Meanwhile, back at the Gateway Galaxy, Ukiki attempts another robbery but is stopped by a flower-themed princess.[j]
