Tromsø is a city in Norway. It is in Tromsø municipality and Troms og Finnmark county. Most of the city is on a small island called Tromsøya.
Tromsø is the largest city in Northern Norway, and home to the main campus of the world's northernmost university - University of Tromsø
Ships, each with hundreds of tourists, came to Tromsø, already around 1850; the largest tourist attraction there, was the Sami camp in Tromsdalen.
Living polar bears were being sold in Tromsø, author Cora Sandel wrote in 1904.
The University of Tromsø was opened in Tromsø in 1972.
