Tromsø is a city in Norway. It is in Tromsø municipality and Troms og Finnmark county. Most of the city is on a small island called Tromsøya.

Tromsø is the largest city in Northern Norway, and home to the main campus of the world's northernmost university[1] - University of Tromsø

Ships, each with hundreds of tourists, came to Tromsø, already around 1850; the largest[2] tourist attraction there, was the Sami camp in Tromsdalen.

Living polar bears were being sold in Tromsø, author Cora Sandel wrote in 1904.[2]

The University of Tromsø was opened in Tromsø in 1972.
