Troy is a city in Doniphan County, Kansas, United States.[4] It is also the county seat of Doniphan County. In 2020, 964 people lived there.[3]
History
[change | change source]Troy was platted in 1855.[5] It was named after the ancient city of Troy.[6] The first house in Troy was built in 1856, and the first store opened in 1857. Troy was incorporated as a city in 1860.[7] The first post office in Troy was created in March 1857.[8]
Geography
[change | change source]Troy is at 39°47′17″N 95°05′27″W / 39.788099°N 95.090840°W (39.788099, -95.090840).[9] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.98 square miles (2.54 km2). Of that, 0.97 square miles (2.51 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[2]

2020 census
[change | change source]The 2020 census says that there were 964 people, 412 households, and 246 families living in Troy. Of the households, 66.7% owned their home and 33.3% rented their home.
The median age was 40.4 years. Of the people, 94.2% were White, 0.6% were Black, 0.3% were Asian, 0.2% were Native American, 0.6% were from some other race, and 4.0% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.4% of the people.[3][10]

[change | change source]The 2010 census says that there were 1,010 people, 421 households, and 275 families living in Troy.[11]
