Tunceli is a province in the eastern part of Turkey. The province was named Dersim before 1936. The word Dersim means silver door in the Kurdish language. Its capital is also called Tunceli.

Tunceli has one of the highest literacy rates in Turkey.[source?] In 1979 and 1980, Tunceli has the highest number of students entering to universities.[source?] However, after the high schools were converted to military bases, Tunceli could not get this achievement again.[source?]
