The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, often known as UNLV, is a public, coeducational university in Paradise, Nevada. The university has about 29,069 students. It was founded in 1957. The current president of the university is Keith E. Whitfield.
Sports
[change | change source]The athletics teams of the university are called the Rebels and Runnin' Rebels for basketball. They have 16 varsity teams and they compete in the Mountain West Conference.
Until the 1970s, the school mascot was Beauregard, a wolf dressed in a gray military field jacket and Confederate cap.[1][2] Beauregard was named for CSA Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard.
