This is a list of characters appearing in the video game series Crash Bandicoot.

Crash side[change | change source]

Crash Bandicoot[change | change source]

Crash Bandicoot (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Steven Blum, and Jess Harnell in the English language releases and by Kappei Yamaguchi and Makoto Ishii in Japanese) is the protagonist of the series. Once an ordinary bandicoot, he was awakened by Cortex's Evolvo-Ray with a sense of justice in his psyche, contrary to what Cortex had planned.[1] He is of adequate intelligence and muscle, but has a foolish personality. Between Crash Bandicoot and Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash's then-girlfriend, Tawna, abandoned him for Pinstripe. During the events of Crash Bandicoot, Crash was only armed with a spin attack and his jumping prowess, but thanks to extensive training under his younger sister Coco, Crash now comes equipped with a slide attack, belly flop, and high jump. His favorite dish is Wumpa Fruit.

Coco Bandicoot[change | change source]

Coco Bandicoot (voiced by Vikki Winters, Hynden Walch, Debi Derryberry, Haruna Ikezawa, and Risa Tsubaki) is Crash's younger sister. With different brain and muscle prowess from her brother, Coco is a genius who frequently manages a laptop. In Crash Bandicoot 2, she made her debut as a sufficient character, advising Crash throughout his adventure. She became a playable character in Crash Bandicoot 3, spending most of her levels operating a vehicle. Alongside her hacking skills, she is a big fan of Kung-Fu movies, showing off a karate kick and a stomp powerful enough as to create a shockwave, both revealed in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex.

Crunch Bandicoot[change | change source]

Crunch Bandicoot (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, Chris Williams and Shinya Fukumatsu) is a very large bandicoot and best friends with Crash and Coco. Identifiable by his large metal arm, he was originally created by Dr Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex with the single goal of destroying Crash. However, Crash quickly broke him out of Cortex's mind control, upon which Crunch left his creator and joined forces with the bandicoots, where he has remained ever since. More often than not, Crunch is seeing working out, lifting very heavy weights. His secret to losing weight is to "Eat less and exercise more."

Fake Crash[change | change source]

Fake Crash (ニセ クラッシュ, Nise Kurasshu) is, as his name implies, a poor imitation of Crash Bandicoot. He has very large eyebrows and teeth, and a really goofy voice, although he is capable of speaking English. No one knows his true creator, although it was most probably Doctor Neo Cortex or Doctor Nitrus Brio. At first, he wasn't a major character in the Crash Bandicoot series. He was only seen as a hidden extra in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, and as an unlockable character in Crash Team Racing. In Japan, however, Fake Crash was very popular, and was featured as a playable character in the Japanese version of Crash Bash. He is not on either the good or evil side in this game, and not playable in Adventure mode. His first major role was in Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced, when he was mistaken for the real Crash by N. Trance and brainwashed into fighting alongside him. He was the third boss in the game, where he mirrored Crash's moves. After he was defeated, he joined forces with Crash and helped defeat N. Trance. He was originally created by Naughty Dog when the team saw a cheap Japanese Crash toy with large teeth and eyebrows, which they originally nicknamed "Trash Bandicoot"

Aku Aku[change | change source]

Aku Aku (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Mel Winkler, and Kenichi Ogata) is the spirit of N. Sanity Island. To obstruct Cortex's plot for world domination, he advises Crash and Coco during their mission and also protects them; when he is summoned 3 times in a row, he can grant them temporary invincibility.[2] It is not until Crash Bandicoot 3 that Aku Aku is seen speaking fluent English.

Polar[change | change source]

Polar (ポーラ, Pōra) is a polar bear cub who made his debut in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. He appears in some of the Arctic levels, where Crash would ride him in the same manner he did the boar in Crash Bandicoot. He was also used in a certain level where Crash had to escape from an exceptionally large polar bear. Polar is also a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart. He was brainwashed alongside Pura and Dingodile by N. Trance, and joined the N. Trance Team, whose karts were green in color. He was also seen in the end cinema for team Bandicoot, where he, Coco, Crash and Crunch are at the beach. Polar appeared in Crash Boom Bang!, where he stood upright and wore jeans, a la Pura in the same game.

Pura[change | change source]

Pura (プーラ, Pūra) is a tiger who made his debut in Crash Bandicoot: Warped. He was discovered by Coco Bandicoot, and used to help her cross the Great Wall of China in its final years of construction. He appeared on N. Trance's side in Crash Nitro Kart, brainwashed along with Dingodile and Polar, as a locked character. Pura is a playable character in Crash Boom Bang!. He is now anthropomorphic, wearing blue jeans and standing upright.

Baby T-Rex[change | change source]

Baby T-Rex is, as his name suggests, a baby Tyrannosaurus Rex who made his first and only appearance is in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, where Crash rode him in some of the prehistoric levels. In each of these levels Crash helped him to hatch, which might mean that there is actually more than one Baby T-Rex. In the end of the game he is seen in the bandicoot's house.

Farmer Ernest[change | change source]

Farmer Ernest is an anthropomorphic emu farmer on the island where Crash and Cortex live. However, he only has a minor role in the game. Crash meets him behind the skull rock on N. Sanity Island. In a parody of Crash's original owner, Naughty Dog's game Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, he pleads Crash to rid his land of the worms riddled in his Wumpa tree orchard in return for a Power Crystal. Cortex, however, shoots him and takes the Power Crystal, on the grounds of being an evil scientist.

Penta Penguin[change | change source]

Penta Penguin is a penguin from the Crash Bandicoot series. A penguin similar to him is attacked by Dingodile in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, before jumping on top of his back for revenge after Crash defeats him. It is believed that this is Penta's first appearancee within the series. He also appeared in Crash Team Racing as a bonus character, where he was first given a name. Penta is based on the penguin enemies Crash encounters in the snow levels of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. A similar penguin, who may or may not have been Penta, also appeared in Crash Bash.

Doctor Neo Cortex[change | change source]

Doctor Neo Cortex (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Clancy Brown, Lex Lang, Shōzō Iizuka, and Yousuke Akimoto) is a balding evil scientist with a giant 'N' on his head. Each time he attempts a sinister plot for world domination, Crash always obstructs him one way or another, much to his disgust. His ultimate dream is to retire to a beach with a woman at his side.[3]

Lab Assistants[change | change source]

The Lab Assistants are subordinates of Cortex, their sole job being to hinder Crash and his friends on their mission. All Lab Assistants mainly wear their trademark circular eyeglasses and lab coats. However, their attire may change depending on the current stage. In Crash Bandicoot 3, it is revealed that all the Lab Assistants are robots.

Doctor N. Gin[change | change source]

Doctor N. Gin (voiced by Brendan O'Brien, Corey Burton, Quinton Flynn, Nolan North, and Kazuhiro Nakata) is Cortex's cyborg space machine engineer, making his debut in Crash Bandicoot 2. Judging from concept art from Crash Twinsanity, he has been a friend of Cortex since their school days. The live lab rocket in his head becomes active when N. Gin is under times of stress and anger.

Uka Uka[change | change source]

Uka Uka (voiced by Clancy Brown, Alex Fernandez, and Ryūzaburō Ōtomo) is the power above Cortex and his minions. Despite being Aku Aku's twin brother, they are exact opposites. Ever since Aku Aku imprisoned him long ago, he has always advised Cortex's plots for world domination, but now he is free because of Cortex's failure in Crash Bandicoot 2. He is apparently of equal power to his brother.

Tiny Tiger[change | change source]

Tiny Tiger (タイニー タイガー, Tainī Taigā) was a Thylacine that was subjected to the Evolvo-Ray. Tiny has sharp teeth, pointed claws, and is muscle-bound. His arms are likely his most powerful weapon. Despite all this, his legs are short and skinny. He speaks in short sentences and normally addresses himself in third person, like "Tiny crush puny bandicoot". Hobbies of his are lifting weights and smashing things. He occasionally plays checkers with himself. Tiny is shown as being fiercely loyal to Cortex, rushing to his aid at the slighest hint of trouble for his master. After the events of Crash Team Racing, he moved to Beverly Hills and founded the popular chain of 'Pain 'N Gain' fitness clubs. His Tiny-Bo exercise video made millions on infomercials around the globe. More recently, he became the ruler of the Earth-like planet Terra.

Dingodile[change | change source]

Dingodile (voiced by William Hootkins and Dwight Schultz) is a follower of Cortex. He was born when Cortex hybridized a stray dingo and crocodile. He proudly sports a large flamethrower wherever he goes. After the events of Crash Team Racing, he went on to found an animal breeding program for the creation of unique and interesting pets. His motto "combine them all" spurred such successes as the Gir-bat, Kanga-rooster, and the Dingo-Rilla.

He first appeared in the original Crash Bandicoot game, as the third boss. It was stated in the epilogue of the first game that Koala Kong moved to Hollywood and landed a motion picture deal with Universal Proportions, working with a speech therapist to improve his diction.

Rilla Roo[change | change source]

Rilla Roo is a cross between a gorilla and a kangaroo. Not much is known about him except that he does not like having his picture taken. He made his only appearance in Crash Bash. He was quickly thrust into his first mission, the Bash Tournaments. After this ended, Rilla deserted his creator.

Rusty Walrus[change | change source]

Rusty Walrus is a large blue walrus wearing a chef's hat and an apron. In his hand he holds a large cleaver. He used to be a cook on Doctor N. Gin's battleship. When Crash got on board, Rusty bellowed,"Arrgh, yummy! Some fresh meat for my pot." Rusty then chases "his naughty piece of meat" down a long hallway filled with towers of fire. When the battleship sank, he assumedly went down with it.

Oxide side[change | change source]

Nitros Oxide[change | change source]

Nitros Oxide (voiced by Quinton Flynn, Junpei Takiguchi, and Chafurin) is an arrogant speed maniac. "Survival of the Fastest" is the name of his game, having once threatened to destroy the world to prove his superiority, but was defeated by Crash and the others. Returning to his home planet of Gasmoxia a broken alien, he didn't return until the Galaxy Circuit came to town, and he got back into racing, feeling refreshed.

Zam[change | change source]

Zam (ザム, Zamu) is a dog-like creature who Zem seems to own. He doesn't appear very intelligent and cannot speak English, instead emitting dog-like noises, with the explanation that he might be an extraterrestrial dog. His first and only appearance was as a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart, where he races for Emperor Velo the 27th in the Yellow Team.

Zem[change | change source]

Zem (ゼム, Zemu) is a gluttonous creature, as evidenced by the constant slurping and burping noises he makes throughout the races. His first and only appearance was as a playable character in Crash Nitro Kart, where he races for Emperor Velo the 27th in the Yellow Team.

He always tends to sing sentences in limericks and rhymes, freaking out everyone (particularly Doctor Neo Cortex and Stew Gizzard Lips[6]).

He was actually the one responsible for stealing the Power Gems from the park and Von Clutch's Black Power Gem. He admits to the crime out of sheer frustration of the other characters' accusation of Crash for the theft of the Gems, given that the one piece of evidence pointing to Willie.[7] He then bounds off to Astro Land and attempts to blast off in a rocket, but is thwarted by Crash when he aborts the launch. Norm[change | change source]

Norm is a small goblin mime who hails from the planet Fenomena, where he is the champion of racing. He is the third racing champion the Bandicoot/Cortex Team faces. He has the odd ability to split into 2 bodies: his normal self, and a large obnoxious obese version of himself that likes to talk trash during the races. They both race at the same time, with the normal Norm focusing on speed, and the larger Norm focusing on offensive measures. Little Norm throws TNT crates backwards while Big Norm uses bowling bombs. Upon losing, the larger Norm congratulates the team for working together. Cortex calls him a filthy clown and Big Norm is upset about it when Velo appears, and The Norms are punished by Velo with the confiscation of their books.

As a result, Tikimon suffocates and supposedly becomes inaminate once again.

Papu Papu[change | change source]

Papu Papu is a traditional chief of a native tribe on N. Sanity Island. His favorite hobbies are sleeping and eating. It is believed that his name means "Pass the dish again, mate" in his native language. He is a neutral character, which means basically that he isn't on Crash's side, neither does he work for Doctor Neo Cortex, as is made quite clear in the later Crash games. As a rule, he dislikes anyone and everyone, especially if they wake him from his slumber, or interrupt him whilst he is eating breakfast. Papu generally speaks in his tribes own language, although it was revealed in Crash Team Racing that he could also speak English.

Nash[change | change source]

Nash (ナッシュ, Nasshu) is a small shark-like creature with gold headgear, goggles with water in them, and orange swimming trunks. Nash hails from the planet Barin, where he is the champion of racing. He is the second racing champion that the Bandicoot/Cortex Team face. Nash was engineered to always move. He never stops, or even sleeps. He races for the enjoyment of defeating his opponents with the power of motion, focusing more on speed than offensive measures. Upon losing, Coco Bandicoot hacks into his helmet, and puts him to sleep. Nash also serves as inspiration for Dr. N. Gin, who suggests to Dr. Neo Cortex that they should make cybernatic sharks as new henchmen. Cortex denies the idea, since "this one lost".

Krunk[change | change source]

Krunk (クランク, Kuranku) is an ape-like creature that hails from the planet Terra, where he is the champion of racing.[8] He looks like an obese, light-blue mandrill with colorful tribal clothing. He dons a nose ring, and has a mane of blond hair that surronds his head. At first, Krunk appears to be an arrogant being, attempting to command Velo to send the Earth racers back to where they came from simply because they looked slow, but when Krunk learns the name of the planet from which the racers came from, he is angered, feeling that Earth is an imitation of his planet.[9] When Crash's team defeats Krunk, he learns humility, and reveals that Terra is actually a copy of Earth after Crash gives Krunk his yo-yo as a gift from Earth.[10] Afterwards, he is teleported away to parts unknown.

Geary[change | change source]

Geary (ギアリー, Giarī) is a robot that hails from the planet Teknee, where he is the champion of racing. He knows every detail about it,[11] and is both Velo's finest racer and the pinnacle of robotics.[12] He has split-personality, and both personalities are obsessed with something. His main personality is obsessed with cleaning, and will clean something at the sight of even one speck of dust. His other personality is fiercely obsessed with winning, bent on proving that only robots can achieve perfection in motion, claiming that he'll demolish anyone who tries to prove otherwise on the racetrack.[13] This aggressive behavior probably stems from his titles of Velo's finest racer and the pinnacle of robotics. He frequently fluctuates between personalities as seen in his introductory sequence[14] and during the races.[15][16] After losing against the Earthlings, he is forced to clean both the trophy and the Coliseum as punishment.[17]

Ants[change | change source]

The Ants are a race of 10th Dimension robots built by The Evil Twins to be teleported into Crash's dimension and steal Wumpa Fruit for the Evil Twins' diabolical schemes. Most of the time they come to Crash's dimension through purple warp portals, though in other times they arrive in a large drilling device used for burrowing underground. They almost never attack alone, always in large groups. They try to hoard boxes of Wumpa Fruit, so Crash must kill them before they take them away. Some Ants wield Lightsaber-esque devices as weapons, while others do not. They are depicted as small and quite weak, but are usually found in groups to make up for this. The Ants appear in four forms throughout the game: Standard, Drill, Fire, and Jet forms.
