Update: As of 6 March, the editor has been globally blocked for extended periods, with one of the longest blocks expiring in the year 2020.

The Pakistan IP Editor is a user or group of users, who edits the Simple English Wikipedia on topics relating to Pakistan. The editor shows strong bias towards Pakistan on issues relating to Kashmir, and lately has been editing articles on subjects relating to Pakistani national symbols, and culture. The user does not have an account as of 2008-11-26 [1], and edits solely using IP addresses. The user does not communicate with other users, and does not respond to warnings, but all of the IPs that he has used geolocate to England or the Isle of Man. Moreover, his article writing is in English, albeit somewhat poor. He has, however, shown an ability to learn from reminders on his talk page, and instructions on how to edit properly. His editing has improved somewhat since his first edits.

On 4 August 2013, the Pakistan editor was first spotted on Simple English Wiktionary, editing as 78.147.119.65.

Editors' opinions

Statement by Jonas D. Rand

Majorly has decided that the appropriate action is to "block on sight", and unilaterally, without consensus, he has indicated that he will continue to engage in this behavior [2]. He mentions an "agreement" that this user is "trouble", but there is no agreement to block on sight. This is purely his decision. I don't see how this is allowed by Wikipedia policies.

I do not believe the editor should be blocked. Most of the material about Pakistan and India was contributed by the Pakistan IP editor. This makes him valuable to the project. Jonas D. Rand T 04:54, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Statement by Chenzw

As of 24 June 2013, no improvement in editing behaviour has been observed. Considering this and the limited amount of editorial resources the wiki possesses to deal with this anonymous editor, administrators both past and present have been adopting a block on sight approach. More details are available here. I urge administrators to consider this approach as well when encountering said editor. A modified version of {{anonblock}} exists at {{User:Chenzw/Reports/Pakistan/blockreason}} for this purpose. Editors are reminded that most edits by the editor are a violation of WP:NPOV and should be reverted where appropriate. Chenzw  Talk  05:54, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Statement by Osiris

All of the edits are either small POV-motivated edits or exerpts copied from the English Wikipedia without simplification (when there is modification, it's trivial and has nothing to do with simplifying, just POV-pushing). The fact that it's been going on for this many years leads me to believe that we need to get tougher. Therefore, I often use a revert, block, ignore system inspired by the CSD G5 policy that is frequently used on the English Wikipedia. As soon as the user(s) realise that their time is being wasted, then there is less of a motivation to return. Osiris (talk) 08:15, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

IPs used by the Pakistan editor

As of 14:07, 8 October 2012 (UTC) all edits by IP addresses in the 193.60.199.0/24 range are similar to the Pakistan Editor. 212.121.219.1 (talk · contribs) also has the same MO.

The original Pakistan Editor, however, used IPs in the 92.0.0.0/12 range. To this day, many IP addresses in that range that edit Simple Wikipedia are the Pakistan Editor.

Who is the Pakistan Editor?

The 212.121.219.1 IP address belongs to the Northwest Learning Grid, nwlg.org, and may be a student in the Manchester area in the district of the NWLG. See whois.

A search for "pakistan site:nwlg.org" turns up [3] may be the student "W..", but claims to "speak English and Urdu" are questionable (seems to have a limited comprehension of English).
