Charles Spurgeon

I believe that I fixed what you asked, so is there anything else that you think needs to be fixed? I want this article to be done right before the voting closes this weekend. -- AmericanEagle 05:15, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Hold on, I'll check and make a lovely little list :) --Gwib -(talk)- 05:16, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
It's very well written, only one red link and is all easy to understand apart from one section. The "Downgrade controversy" section is hard to understand in my view. When you say: "each side said the other was raising issues", which sides do you mean? When you say that the theory of natural selection were making the Baptist union weak, how so? Things like that.
Once you've fixed that issue, this article will easily pass. It's informative, well written and nicely laid out. Good work. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:30, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I fixed the red link and added to both problems that you said. Hope that works for you. I've got to go to bed. Good night -- AmericanEagle 05:51, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Inkpad

You created interwiki links from inkpad to en:Blotting paper and more articles on that subject. Other editors have now expanded the article with material about blotting paper. But that's not the same thing at all! The inkpad is, as the article correctly notes, a "small box that has ink on a thick piece of cloth or other material." Blotting paper is "a type of paper or other material which is used to absorb an excess of substance (such as ink or oil) from the surface of an object." I'm confused. Rl (talk) 08:47, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I was under the impression that blotting paper and inkpads were the same thing. Indeed the article seems to confirm it with the last sentence being: "The process of making blotting paper in bulk was..." thereby making "inkpad" synonymous with "blotting paper". --Gwib -(talk)- 16:59, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
The sentence you quote was copied by some editor from en:Blotting paper after you managed to confuse them with the interwiki links :-). Inkpad (+ stamp, ink bottle) vs. Blotting paper, Blotting paper on a roll. Rl (talk) 08:00, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Then I must have got the two (apparently different) things mixed up. Thanks for putting me straight, and how about you fix the mistake? You seem only to have created an account to correct me. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:42, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. I removed the incorrect content from the article. FWIW, I create an account when I edit any WP. I noticed the odd interwiki link to simple:WP on en:WP, and that just happened to be the first time I saw the need to edit simple:WP. Sorry, I didn't mean to annoy you. Rl (talk) 08:21, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Money

How do you get paid to work at wikipedia? You even get paid for going simple english wikipedia?

At the end of each month I receive a paycheck of around $600,023 for working here. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:39, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
You're very undervalued, I think. You deserve at least $600,025 at the bare minimum. -  EchoBravo  contribs  16:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Hahaha! Thanks :). Although I haven't been contributing much recently (school), I plan on getting up my edits these coming holidays. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:46, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
This makes me wonder how much I am valued at. I continuously consider myself worth at least $.01, but I can't help but feel that I'm worth more than that (specifically, $.04 :)). Cheers, Razorflame 00:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Question

Doesn't this make you feel loved? Razorflame 13:21, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Definitely! Sometimes I think that Benniguy is romantically attached to me somewhat. HA! --Gwib -(talk)- 15:36, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

ER / QD

Thanks for that barnstar. First one ever, EN would only give me the "Barnstar of being a little s**t" with the award of a 1 year block, and another award given to me by others, being trolled, and so EN gave me another prize, an ban extention!

Theres 2 QD's I added, can they be huffed? --  Da Punk '95  talk  21:21, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

No offense meant, but you must have done something to 'earn' those barnstars... But on a separate note, you're doing really well here! The WP:ER was honestly a brilliant idea.
The QD's were dealt with around 10 seconds before you posted this message :). Simple English efficiency? --Gwib -(talk)- 21:23, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Get the SysOp flag here, and EN's ArbCom will have to revoke those barnstars! BTW - how long until I should run? --  Da Punk '95  talk  21:25, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
You edit fairly regularly, which is always a good thing. You also vary what you edit and you've obviously got the hang of AWB, which is still double dutch to me. However, you only have around 160 mainspace edits and it's recommended that you have near 1000 edits in the mainspace before running. If you look at WP:RfA, you'll see just how many people failed their RfA due to low edit counts. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:30, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Just got another idea, to reinstate WP:AID. Can you please restore Wikipedia:Article Improvement Drive into my userspace, to User:Da Punk '95/AID. Had a look at RfA archives, maybe next month i'll have my EN account back, and the SysOp flag.
It's already in another user's space here. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I would have to concur with Gwib. You are doing really well here, however, I probably wouldn't run until the number of mainspace edits is up considerably, as well as your total edit count. I'm not being completely arrogant here, just giving you a suggestion to make your next RfA a success. Cheers, Razorflame 23:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Simple talk/Archive 29

I just tried to archive to this archive, but I couldn't, because someone had given it full protection. Do you think you could wait to fully protect an archive until you know absolutely for sure if there aren't going to be any more changes to that archive by Auto-confirmed users? Cheers, Razorflame 03:06, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Why not simply create a new archive? I see someone has already done it.
Archive 29 has 14 topics, many of which are over 1 screen long (censorship, parents control, CfA made into guideline). Archive 28 has 11 topics, archive 26 has 20 topics, archive 25 has 8 topics, archive 21 has 9 topics. All in all, archive 29 is sufficient the way it is and does not need either adding to or unprotecting. --Gwib -(talk)- 08:08, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Warwick isn't too clever, you only need around 32 points (out of 45) to get in. But it has a brilliant atmosphere and really friendly people so I'd love to go there. Imperial will probably be my first choice though. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:21, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

RE: Simple English

Cethegus told me to come to you in regards to Billy Graham. With you adding the {{complex}} template to it, you should be the one to remove it. Cethegus has done very much to the article. If it is ready to be removed then that is fine, but if not could you tell me what is left to be done. Cheers -- AmericanEagle 06:40, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I read it, and it looks very good! Well done to both you and Cethegus for your hard work. The only sentences I don't really like are "Graham has been honored by public evaluation many times" and "He has ranked in both lists (which ones?) of the most admired persons in the United States, and the world". Once those have been reworded and a {{fact}} template been stuck on the latter sentence, it should be good to go. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
I removed the bad references (I had only taken it from en:WP). I have now listed it here. Cheers -- AmericanEagle 20:13, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Well done, will tweek it a bit more (sorry, huge fetish for tweeking) and then vote accordingly. Things like the "awards" section have to be cleaned up a tad (which I'll do when I have time, I love cleanups). --Gwib -(talk)- 20:22, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Very good job on the Awards and honors section, thanks! -- AmericanEagle 17:57, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Question

You up for a little work? I have a request. Do you think you could make the columns at List of rivers of Romania (B1) from 2 equal columns to 3 equal columns for me? Cheers, Razorflame 17:10, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I forgot to mention this, but can you use {{multicol}} and that family of columns please, as that is what is used on the rest of the pages? Cheers, Razorflame 17:23, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Not quite done, it's split up into 4 columns since it seemed more appropriate. I'll leave the fine-tuning to you if you don't mind, my dinner is getting cold :). --Gwib -(talk)- 17:37, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

(unindenting) I've already added it to Wikipedia:Good articles and all the other stuff, but I guess we can leave it for now until tomorrow. Cheers, Razorflame 18:00, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I know it'll most probably pass, but deadlines are discussed in detail and noted in bold next to the nomination. If we were to make someone an admin without hearing everyone out just because it looked like they were going to pass, deadlines would be pointless. We'd just function on number of votes. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:02, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I understand your concern and I will not repost that result again. I have taken what you have said and integrated it into my already overflowing brain :) Cheers, Razorflame 18:15, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I know what you mean about the overflowing brain. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO LEARN 6 SYLLABUSES FOR EXAMS. Stress bubbles over and nerves snap. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
The reason why I say that my brain is overflowing is because I am actively editing both this Wikipedia in addition to the English Wikipedia (by actively, I mean between 50-250+ edits a day). I've been editing the English Wikipedia more and more because I am actually going to be trying for adminship over there in September :). That sucks that you have to learn 6 syllabuses. Cheers, Razorflame 18:58, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello.

Why is there soooo many people vandlizing Simple Wikipedia today? Or does this happen everyday?

Runningblader,In Anti-Vandlism Project 18:43, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

My guess is that there's a class in school where they were sent to a computer lab or somewhere similar. With a class of 20+, we're bound to get a lot of vandalism until their classes are over. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm is there a way to block or ban that IP adress for the rest of the day?? Runningblader,In Anti-Vandlism Project 18:51, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure how to get to the IP address itself. I think a checkuser would be needed. I'm not a checkuser so we'll just have to wait till they get bored. It's not that bad, just block the accounts and revert the changes. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Over and over and over and over again? That gets annoying after awaile and plus i've seen ppl they probly switch classes and you know what that means? More people vandlizing. Runningblader,In Anti-Vandlism Project 19:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

It's slowing down, and such a big influx doesn't happen often. Don't worry about it. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:09, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Poplar Forest

I visited Poplar Forest this weekend and wrote an article about it from memory of what I learned on the tour. Some admin guy came along and deleted my article for not being notable, even though I mentioned it was a home of Thomas Jefferson. Now someone has started another article about Poplar Forest and just copy and pasted from the Wikipedia site. Now I see that you have added the same photo from the wikipedia site. I have read the rules now, and still can't figure out why my offering was not notable and the article you are working on IS notable.

Are all the articles here not allowed unless someone just copy and pastes from the English wikipedia? I am trying so hard to catch on. Maybe some of the admins here have not yet studied who the presidents are? Should I just plan on spelling out this kind of thing in the future?

Bumberspand (talk) 05:52, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

If an article is on the most notable subject possible (eg. Mathematics, a president etc) but only has a sentence such as "Maths uses numbers" or "Jefferson was the president for a bit" then it lacks notability. It doesn't matter what the subject is; if there is no information then it will be deleted.
Right now, your article has been re-written to show that it has notability and useful information, but all was taken from English Wikipedia since none of us have ever been there. If you, who has been there, could write better information on it we'd appreciate it. --Gwib -(talk)- 05:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your kind words and for trying to help. I feel like I have been soccer punched by the people of this site, so this will be my last edit. Except of course for removing the first paragraph on my userpage.....so I will wipe that out and be gone. I truly don't get why someone would delete an article which someone is working on when they saved the article so they could go to the bathroom. All the other wikis I have been involved with have a deletion policy and admins are expected to read it and to follow it.....there is usually a very important time element involved.........It is very important to give time to the new editors and to extend assumptions of good faith. But that is other wikis......not this one. Every wiki is different, I guess. Have a nice morning.

Added your name, only problem I can find with the numbers 0-9 and symbols would be dashes and those non-indo European symbols which are sometimes put into usernames. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:02, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
S'ok, we've been forced to allow characters from other languages now thanks to SUL... unfortunately I think I'd be desysopped for adding every letter to the blacklist, it probably comes under some minor little rule about "abuse of admin powers" or something :( All the fun things are against the rules... Archer7 - talk 16:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
"Minor little rule", hahaha! Oh Archer, you slay me. --Gwib -(talk)- 16:12, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure it's going to work after this? I know it looks tidier, but scripts can be rather picky and I wouldn't like it to get confused with the wiki syntax... Archer7 - talk 19:53, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
The }} at the end of the {{col-break}} messages usually stop code from spilling over, but better safe than sorry, you're right. Thanks for asking me about it though. --Gwib -(talk)- 20:36, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Your Userpage

Category:Users who have copied Gwibs userpage design. Might not be too long before its worthwhile. --  Da Punk '95  talk  22:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Haha! True, 3 people here copied it. But I myself asked someone else to copy it for me from yet another user from EN Wiki! It's a vicious circle. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Category:People who have copied Gwibs userpage which he copied from someone who proberly copied it from someone else which he copied from someone who proberly copied it from someone else which he copied from someone who proberly copied it from someone else. :) --  Da Punk '95  talk  22:18, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I know. But I must admit, I got my flag from someone on en:WP. And my design from another user here - I cannot remember whom it was. Here's one: Category:People who have stole someone else's userpage design but forgot who it was so it dosn't count anymore. Cheers --  AmericanEagle  22:24, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I like userpages. I'm a complete tidy freak in real life. I don't care how neat a place is as long as I know exactly where everything is. My room is a hole, but an organized hole :P. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:33, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Nobodyhome

According to the block log, this user isn't blocked...so other than the fact that he is a banned user evading his block, why is the blocked template on his page? Cheers, Razorflame 22:47, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Thought Alison had already blocked him. Apparently not, but he is now. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:49, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
How could Alison have blocked that user over here if she isn't a sysop, eh? Razorflame 22:50, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
You got me, didn't know she wasn't. She's big over on En Wiki and I hadn't thought she wouldn't be over here. --Gwib -(talk)- 22:54, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Checkusers/sysops only have the rights on the Wikipedia that they were given the rights on. Over here, she is just a regular user, but over on en, she is a major player (checkuser/sysop). I've been editing the English Wikipedia more often lately (besides this past week), and I am actually going to be going for the sysop flag over there. I have an admin coach over there and I have a target of mid to late July into August or September (whenever my admin coach thinks I'm ready). Look for it! Cheers, Razorflame 22:56, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
I know. I spy on you. --Gwib -(talk)- 23:01, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Moon/The Moon

Hi you don't think you could move Moon to Natural Satellite for me please. I made an article about Earth's moon but the only way to access it is to type 'The Moon'. Typing simply 'moon' comes up with an article about moons in general, which correctly should be reffered to as natural satellites. Also the solar system template links to moons in general when Earth's moon is clicked on. I think that people looking for Moon would most likely be looking for Earth's moon not others in the Solar System, especially those on Simple. Sorry to trouble you with this but I didn't want to post it on the articles talk page as I thought it might take a long time to get a reply/help. I don't really know the processes involved in moving articles on Wiki either so if you can't do anything to help thats ok Thanks very much.

 Done
"The Moon" redirects to earth's moon
"Moon" redirects to "natural satellite". --Gwib -(talk)- 22:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
