Batman: Arkham City is an action-adventure video game made by Rocksteady Studios. It is available for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and the PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 video game systems. The game is based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. It is the second in the Batman: Arkham series. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2011 and for Microsoft Windows the following month. Arkham City was then released for Wii Unote in November 2012 and for OS X the following month. All versions of the game were released worldwide by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The game is written by long-time Batman writer Paul Dini, with help from Paul Crocker and Sefton Hill. It is based on the long-running comic book franchise. In the main story, Batman is put into a very large new super-prison in Gotham City called Arkham City. While there, Batman must learn and stop a scheme called "Protocol 10". The disturbing scheme was designed by the man who created Arkham City, Hugo Strange. The leading characters of the game are Batman and the Joker. Arkham City features Kevin Conroy voicing Batman and Mark Hamill voicing Joker. The game is played from the third-person view. Batman's combat and stealth abilities, detective skills, and use of gadgets are a big part of the game. Arkham City is the first game in the series to have an open world level design.

Arkham City got critical acclaim. It was tied for the highest-rated video game of 2011. The game received awards including Game of the Year, Best Action Game, Best Action Adventure Game, Best Adventure Game, and Best Original Score from different media outlets. A mobile version titled Batman: Arkham City Lockdown was created for iOS and Android systems. Arkham City Lockdown was made available for download in December 2011. In October 2013, a third game titled Batman: Arkham Origins was released.

Plot[change | change source]

At a press conference, Bruce Wayne announces his disapproval of Arkham City. Soon after, TYGER guards arrest and place him in Arkham City. Hugo Strange reveals to Wayne that he knows of his secret identity as Batman before sending him into the prison's criminal masses. While Strange prepares to activate "Protocol 10", Alfred Pennyworth provides Wayne with his gear using the Batwing. This allows Wayne to become Batman. He first saves Catwoman from being murdered by Two-Face, who hopes to gain respect by doing so. After the Joker tries to kill Catwoman, Batman tracks him to his hideout in the Sionis Steelmill, believing he may know what Protocol 10 truly is.
