Julia Alvarez (born 27 March, 1950) is an American author of books for young people.^[1] Many of her books and poems are about lives of immigrants. She was born in New York City but moved to the Dominican Republic as a young child. She lived there until she was ten years old. Alvarez then moved back to the United States.
