Thunkable is a website that does not need programming knowledge where people can create apps for phones using a drag-and-drop system[3] for iOS[a] and Android[4], as well as web apps. It was founded in 2015 by Arun Saigal and Weihua James Li. It has two versions, the older "Thunkable Classic"[b] and the newer[4] "Thunkable X" which has two interfaces, Snap to Place (StP) and Drag & Drop (DnD).

Thunkable is based on the MIT App Inventor[1], which began at Google Research and MIT (as of 2010). People who made Thunkable worked on App Inventor as MIT students.[5][6]

Thunkable has its headquarters in San Francisco, California.[2]

Thunkable is based on the App Inventor project[1], which began at Google Research and MIT (as of 2010). It was founded in 2015 by Arun Saigal and WeiHua Li. Before, there was only one version, the "classic" version. Later, Thunkable X was made, a successor to Thunkable Classic.

In 2018, it was said that people can use a custom branding on how their logo looks like in a phone's home screen and when the app is loading, with PRO, a paid plan.[7]

In 2019, Thunkable Classic was said that it is retiring and people cannot sign up to Thunkable Classic. But people who signed up before still can use Thunkable Classic. [8]

In 2020 to now, Thunkable Classic was no longer able to use, completely retiring Classic. Earlier in 2020, Thunkable said there was a new web app publication feature, for users with the paid plan PRO. It shows how a phone running the application in a webpage looks like.[8] Later in 2020, specifically December, DnD(Drag and drop) replaced StP(Snap to Place). It has a new user interface.[9] But the documents for the new UI released later, in 2021.[10]

In 2022, Thunkable announced more than 3 000 000 users and $30M in a Series B funding.[11]
