In many countries people enjoy using sesame oil because of its good and strong scent. People know it would be from Asia countries, not more than that. There are history, how to make, cook, buy and keep sesame oil below.

The English term sesame traces back to the Arabic simsim, Coptic semsem, and and early Egyptian semsent (the latter being listed in the Ebers Papyrus, a 65-feet-long scroll listing ancient herbs and spices discovered by the famous German Egyptologist, Ebers). The earliest recorded use of a spice - sesame seed - comes from an Assyrian myth which claims that the gods drank sesame wine the night before they created the earth. Sesamum indicum, (indicum meaning from India) is native to the East Indies. Usage dates back to 3000 B.C. Over 5,000 years ago, the Chinese burned sesame oil not only as a light source but also to make soot for their ink-blocks. African slaves brought sesame seeds, which they called benné seeds, to America, where they became a popular ingredient in Southern dishes. Through the ages, the seeds have been a source of food and oil. Sesame seed oil is still the main source of fat used in cooking in the Near and Far East [1]

How to make it[change | change source]

  1. Add the oil and sesame seeds to the blender. Turn the blender on to medium and allow the pieces to blend together until smooth. This will create a creamy sesame paste, and the sesame oil will rise to the top of the mixture when allowed to rest.
  2. Pour the mixture into a bowl and allow to it to sit for 1 hour. The sesame oil will rise to the top of the mixture. Spoon this oil out into a cup. Simply lay the spoon on top of the mixture and allow the oil to seep over the sides of the spoon, until full.
  3. Lay plastic wrap over the top of the cup and gently press around the rim of the cup. This will seal in the freshness of the oil and makes it easy to refrigerate.== Cooking [2]

There are plenty of food that you can make with sesame oil. Here is the easiest one to cook food with sesame oil. Ingrididents are rice, an egg, soy sauce and sesame oil. # Put rice in a plate.

  1. Put a spoon of soy sauce to the rice
  2. Make a fried egg and put it to the plate
  3. Put a spoon of sesame oil
  4. Also you can add other ingridents like sausages or vegetable[3]

You should add the oil at last since it has strong scent. And if you put that at the very beginning the scent could be disappeared when you have the dish.

Buying & Keeping[change | change source]

Good sesame oil has a strong scent when it is opened. The color should be bright brown or gold. It should be kept in 18C ~ 22C. If it is too cold, the oil would be solid and lose its scent. Sesame oil could go bad if it is exposed to air and sunlight. Therefore it will be better to be ketp in a shelf or a sideboard. And a dark brown-bottle is much better than just a plain one, because the brown one can protect the oil from the sunlight better than the plain one. In addition to this, it should be closed tightly not to exposed to the air. Last, you'd better use it three months for sanitariness. There are many things that decide the price. First, the oil content is the most important one to decide the price.[4] Usually a bottle of sesame oil has 40~55%. The more oil content it has, the higher price it has. Another element is country of origin.[5] Also if you buy it made from a factory it would be much cheaper that made from a country house made by a farmer.
