Red links are useful[change source]

Shalom, Daniel. I want to explain the reason it's best not to remove the brackets around a red link if you don't know how to fix it. The red link is usually an important term that ought to have a page of its own - and many times it does but the editor didn't know its name. So the red link quickly catches the attention of an experienced editor who will come along and fix it. For three examples from your edits today:

The idea is to find the correct page name for the link, then make a "piped link" with paired brackets, in which you type the page name, then a vertical bar (no space!) then type however you want the text to appear. I suggest you view the Change History of today's activity, then you're welcome to contact me if you'd like more explanations. -- כל טוב, Deborahjay (talk) 15:06, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you, I hope I will quickly learn the rules here. הוספתי תוכן (talk) 15:15, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
@Deborahjay:, and hello הוספתי תוכן. Excellent advice in my opinion. Just wanted to add that the number of wp:redlinks to each topic is counted and is useful in producing Wikipedia:Most wanted articles. Ottawahitech (talk) 20:07, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
@Ottawahitech:, I hadn't known about the WP:Most wanted articles, but my top choice for a resource on missing articles is still among the Special pages:Wanted pages. It's highly inflated by templates (e.g. for local geography), but by scrolling by 500s we find identifiable topics, e.g. Nobel laureates and other notable people whose biographies are fairly easy to simplify to create pages here. My other frequent task with red links is as the examples I gave above when reviewing Recent changes pages: piping to existing pages whose names the novice editor hadn't known. -- Deborahjay (talk) 10:36, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

The page you wrote, Night service (public transport), has been selected for quick deletion. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. You can find more information about the reason here. Zaxxon0 (talk) 02:18, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
