Archival[change source]

Archer, I think it is time to archive this talk page, for example till 30 Oct. Best regards, - Huji reply 08:16, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That would make it his shortest archived talk page. His first one is 100+ topics long and his second is 70+ topics long.
Gwib-(talk)- 16:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although I would agree that it could do with being archived... I forgot. Thanks, Archer7 - talk 16:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA thanks[change source]

Dear Archer7,

Thank you for your participation in my RFA which closed successfully with 19 supports and 1 oppose which didn't count since it was made by a sock of a banned user. If you have any comments, concerns, or any suggestions for me as an Administrator, feel free to leave a note on my talkpage. Thank you.  Lights  talk  13:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[change source]

I know this may sound a little morbid, but can you talk me through which bans to use on which users and when now that I'm an administrator here?
Nothing complicated, just maybe for how long I should block an IP address repeat vandal or if someone creates an account for vandalism only. I would much appreciate it!
I just don't want to block someone for longer than they're deserved.
Gwib -(talk)- 23:05, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You aren't an administrator yet....the vote doesn't end until tomorrow. Razorflame 23:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is tomorrow here, just went midnight and I'm usually up till around 1. My dad is smoking a cigar and editing on En Wiki and my bro is playing PaperMario, we're a nocturnal family :p
Gwib -(talk)- 23:08, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wait...your dad edits the en:WP? Razorflame 23:09, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, he was the one that showed me En Wikipedia for the first time, the one who showed me Simple Wikipedia for the first time and the one who taught me how to deal with articles, style of writing and how to deal with vandals.
Gwib -(talk)- 23:12, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!

Dear Archer7/Archive 4.
I'd like to thank you deeply for participating in my RfA, which came out successful just today.
I'm happy to say that I'll be more active than ever now, and that any page that needs protecting or any vandal that needs blocking will be done so (unless someone beats me to it!). If you have any comments to make, concerns or even critisism, then please leave a message on my talk page.

Username concern and rename request[change source]

Hi there, I'm an administrator on the English Wikipedia and at Commons under the username Nick. It would appear that the username Nick was registered here last year, in order to prevent confusion and impersonation, I am wondering if it would be possible you could rename this account User:Heligoland to User:Nick. The account that I would be usurping has no edits that I can see, so there is no problem with GFDL compliance. I've included a link to my userpage on the English Wikipedia to show that this is a legitimate request. w:User:Nick. Thanks in advance. Heligoland (talk) 03:43, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice: My block has expired, and I just wanted to let you know:

  • I will not create anymore sockpuppets, if I am unblocked/given a second chance.
  • I will noot edit again until my block expires unless I am unblocked (I will accept a strict parole), given approval, or if I have to respond to you again
  • Please do not block my range again. My IP is not dynamic, and the only reason that my IP address changed is because static IPs change too, and this was an instance of that. I tried to tell Cometstyles on IRC to tell you, but ze obviously didn't.
  • If you're going to block me, block my IP address for 10 months (do not countthis as evasion, I had to tell you this), not my range for two weeks. It encourages evasion (but I won't do that)
  • I remember that I have undiscovered sockpuppets: SlimV (talk · contribs), User:Slimv1, Slimv2 (talk · contribs), Slimv4 (talk · contribs), Slimv5 (talk · contribs), Sam24 (talk · contribs), Sam24IsBack (talk · contribs), and D. G. Sonja (talk · contribs) (commons:User:D. G. Sonja) (the latter's surname being an anagram for "Jonas" and, well, you can guess the rest. The image I uploaded was from [1] for "Jpgordon". I then requested deletion of the image because I requested deletion because I regretted what I had done. I now hate that hivemind page, because it stalks people (I got my head out of my ass) and it was terrible of me to advocate that. I'm very sorry.
  • As I said, sincerely, I won't evade my block without permission.

--User:Ionas68224

The block has not expired. Even if it had not been extended (twice) to 1 year, the original block was six month starting on September 11, 2007. It would not have been over until March 11th, not January 11th. The most recent extention places the block not to expire until Dec 23, 2008. It probably should be reset due to the evasion and vandalism done through sock Sam24IsBack on Dec 28th but that is another issue. -- Creol(talk) 05:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[change source]

Hey Archer, I noticed that you have responded with a proposal to the rollback permission. While I agree with your 1 month experience limit, I think that for a user to have rollback access is at least a minimum 2 approval from admins. Also, while I think that there should be an undefined number of edits to gain rollback, I think that a minimum of 200 edits should be suggested (though not required) for someone to get rollback. Similar to en wiki, admins should also be alloweed to grant rollback access as well as revoking them.

Although this is merely my proposal of the actual rollback, I gave this a second thought if we should have rollback users here. While vandalism and sockpuppetry for sure have increased in the past year, the majority of the active users here are admins, with notable exceptions i.e., Razorflame, and probably several other newer users here. Because of this, I decided to have the 'crats decide on the issue as to wether enable rollback access in simplewiki or not. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 08:06, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change of username[change source]

Hello, I would like to change my user name please. I am tired of everyone carrying on their prejudices from my previous banned account on EN to this username, as so far, everytime i make a mistake here, some users seem to make a massive deal out of it simply because of what happened on my old account @ EN, and I came here intending to be given an equal chance, not one that is already prejudged before I even begin. So I would like to change my name to: Benniguy please. Thanks. For the same reasons I am going to remove the self-written statement of how I am a banned user @ EN on my user page, as i don't feel like I am being treated equally by the users that already know about the history of "me", so for any further users I develop contact with, I do not want the same prejudices to be continued again. thanks I-R 20:21, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you I-R 20:32, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A different name, not that of one of your EN Wiki socks, would seem to be a more practical was of distancing yourself from your past - Benniguy is listed on EN as one of your socks, so anyone checking would know straight away MindTheGap (talk) 20:36, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes MindTheGap, that is entirely the reason I am doing this. You keep dragging up "my" past @ EN with me every time I try to do something here. Benniguy was one of the only socks of "me" on EN that was actually mine (and that was actually used to try to explain who was impersonating me anyway!). I only want to edit constructively. I have been to hell and back on EN... i have had my wikipedia, myspace, hotmail, facebook, and bebo accounts hacked and impersonated. You have only seen what happened on wikipedia with the fake "mes". My entirely school and social life became a complete messy blur where no one knew what was going on due to all the many compromisations of my accounts by my 'friends'. Unfortunately, the circumstances got out of hand with my friends on EN, and this angered the community, and one day i hope that I wil be able to edit there too. However, for the moment, can you just actually allow me to have a chance and prove that all the disruptive sockpuppets weren't me. Just give me a fair chance, i am a person too, and I have feelings. Everytime you act biased towards me because of "my" past @ EN, it hurts, and it makes me realise that it is going to be so much harder to prove myself just because of what my friends did to me. Why do you seem so persistant to carry on what my friends started in creating a false reputation about me on this site? How would you feel if your friends hacked and impersonated you, and made you out to be a vandal, and then someone kept assuming bad faith on you at every opportunity just because of what your friends, not you, but your friends, did pretending to be you in the past? I-R 20:52, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming I believe what you say (I don't and I have never seen anything to suggest your accounts ever were hacked), then choosing a non-sock name would have made sense. And regardless of what you may or may not have done on EN, there is some feeling here that you have already done enough on Simple to be banned MindTheGap (talk) 21:01, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that his school IP adress block note should be changed now to somehow include his new user name as well as his previous one, just so that everybody is in the know. I.Rosary 21:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MindTheGap, you are violating one of the truly most important rules here. Assume good faith. I chose Benniguy because that is the name i wish to use when I can eventually return to wikipedia. And actually MindTheGap, the reason that there is so much talk about banning me is in fact due to the fact that I decided to be brave enough and be truthful about everything that went on @ EN, even though I knew the community might be against me (which i later found out this was partially true). For crying out loud can you just treat me like a normal person, and not like some criminal. You are being so inconsiderate MindTheGap that it actually hurts my feelings very much. I don't understand what you have against me? All i have done is come back after my block and ask for a username change and already I am facing your remarks about EN. What is your problem with me? really? What is there not to believe? Jeff, a very trusted member of the community as I am sure you know, believes me 100%, and thinks that there is still some chance for me as long as I can learn from what has happened. Whereas you... all you want to do is ban me whenever the slightest thing goes wrong. I-R 21:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits[change source]

Something just occured to me. If the simple english for 'minor edit' is 'small change', then in edit summaries, if 'This is a small Change' is ticked, then surely it should come up with the letter S (For small), but instead, it has M (For minor) like on EN. Can this be changed? as currently, a speaker of simple english would have no idea what 'M' is. Benniguy talk[[Special:Contributions/Benniguy|changes]] 20:23, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jumping in: This has been discussed recently, and the benefits over the problems do not make the change worth it. --Bärliner 20:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But both of us speak english fine, so its not us that would have the problems. We would have to think about the people who do not speak english well. For consistancy alone they should be kept the same. Either you call them 'Minor' and 'M', or you call them 'Small' and 'S'. You can't mix a bit of them together. ^_^ Benniguy talkchanges 20:30, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we can. And we do. Aren't you supposed to be concentrating on articles? Pestering individual editors over questions which should be brought to Simple Talk for a community decision is wasting everybody's time. This is a decision which you are powerless to change, and it will stay so until you are able to post on Simple Talk--Bärliner 20:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you may need to calm down. The reason I was concerned your account may have been compromised was because you were calling editors by their names, names not available (as far as I know) on this Wiki, and therefore you appeared to be posting personal information, which is grounds for an indefinite block MindTheGap (talk) 21:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that I am very very close to being banned now. However, I really do want to give things another try. I have honestly seen now what exactly it is that I was doing wrong, which I did not before, and I hope that the proposition i made at Tygrrr's talk page will be indicative of just how hard i am prepared to try one more time in order to prove that I can be helpful here. I hope that you will review the proposition, and consider giving me the chance to prove that I will focus more on articles than talk pages from now on. If I do not abide my the rules, then I would agree that you should block me straight away, but I do hope that you will allow me to actually try one last time to continue my editing. Its not like all my edits have been on talk pages, as there are many pages, and even 2 wikiproject proposals that I have created, so I have edited as well. I think one of the best pages I have made so far is BDD... which I worked on for hours. I hope that if you give me the chance to carry on here, I can carry on making more articles like this. Hi Archer7. That wasn't the case. I wasn't trying to gain adminship without an RfA, I wanted temporary adminship to deal with vandalism that wasn't getting dealt with. Disclaimers :)[change source]

Hi there,

A couple of things - would it be possible to move, out of Wikipedia:Simple talk/Archive 29, the sections "WP → Wikipedia shortcut" and "Legal issues and disclaimers"? It would be great to get more discussion.

Also, if you have any spare time at all, I'd really really really really really appreciate some help deciding what to do with the disclaimers. Really really.

Many thanks, Drum guy (talk) 23:28, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I'm merging my accounts and noticed there was a vandal who registered as "Rick Block" on simple (and is permanently blocked). Can you rename that account (or something) so I can be myself everywhere? Thanks. -- en:user:Rick Block 04:13, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rename me please[change source]

Hi Archer 7:

Some time ago I've created the account "Brunoy Anastasiya Seryozhenko" here in simple Wikipedia, but I forgot the password, and I forgot too to rename this old account (Brunoy Bruyanovich Bruyanov) of mine too to my new username; and if you could rename this account to "Brunoy Anastasiya Seryozhenko" for me Thanks, because I want to use the username "Brunoy Anastasiya Seryozhenko" in all Wikimedia because of SUL. Thanks. --Brunoy Bruyanovich Bruyanov (talk) 23:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind confirming your identity for me by posting a message on my Meta talk page under the name "Brunoy Anastasiya Seryozhenko"? I tried to check your matrix page, but it doesn't link to a specific account over here - I'm trying to make sure I'm not removing the real user. Archer7 - talk 08:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me?[change source]

I don't know you but I do know that you are a bureaucrat and can probably help me. I was looking for some type of help desk, similar to the one on the regular English Wiki, but I couldn't find one. I came to you because you were the first name on the list of admins and bureaucrats. Can you help me?Mattkenn3 talk 16:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, if I want to make a Wikiproject, does it have to be a user project like user:Mattkenn3/Wikiproject African Wildlife or could it be just Wikiproject African Wildlife?Mattkenn3 talk 17:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yay! Butting-in-fest! It needs to be in the User namespace, and so User:Mattkenn3/Wikiproject African Wildlife &c. If it attracts more members, and consensus is reached, it can be moved into Wikipedia namespace. Further reading can be found here. Microchip 19:16, Monday, June 2 2008 Utc
That's correct, it does need to be in your userspace. Remember that we are still quite small and only have 30 or 40 regular, active users, so it may be a little early for Wikiprojects. Feel free to give it a shot though if you think it could work. Archer7 - talk 19:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When will you be able to give SoxBot the flag? He's flooding Recent Changes. --Gwib -(talk)- 19:02, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very. --  AmericanEagle  19:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bring this up in such a hectic time (I'm 3/9 exams done, 3 3 hour exams coming up!), but could you grant the Bot Flag to SoxBot? He was useful and without noticeable glitches. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is pretty scary... Nevermind then, we'll just have to use the good ol' "Contributions" button to check whether or not someone is online. --Gwib -(talk)- 18:49, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New warning templates[change source]

I was going to create a vandalism warning template, but I just wanted someone's opinion on it. How about something like this, this, this, and this? Of course it will be simplified and copyedited, but better yet, it would be a warning template. It basically should be used when general vandalism occurs, not test edits when you use {{test}}. Thoughts? -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 09:18, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming[change source]

Chenzw said to me i had to contact a bureaucrat, from here, for my name to be changed. You were first on the list. Can you change it please.

Hello Archer7. I just thought I'd make it easier for you when you see this, so I'm asking Gay225 (inappropriate, current username for this user) the following, and I added section. What name do you want it to be? Make sure it is appropriate for users to see, but yet, unique. :) -- RyanCross (talk) 11:44, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I want it to be changed to Callum225

Change Username[change source]

Hi, I don't see you around often, I am not a regular user, but I never see you everytime I pop in. Probably because I sleep when you're awake and you sleep when I'm awake. Anyway, I would like to change my username to Minor Contributer instead. I also visit this place very seldom nowadays anyway, I've got school and homework. Besides, it's quite offensive to have such a name. Thanks! Prime Contributer (talk) 10:39, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, should it not be Prime Contributor? mC8 14:36, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know which version you'd prefer and I'll do it. I think Microchip's version is correct... Archer7 - talk 17:08, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand you, I prefer to be Minor Contributer for now, I'm not going to visit this place often. Exams coming up. Prime Contributer (talk) 08:18, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done - Archer7 - talk 08:27, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! I came accross your talk page, Archer, and I got yours and Microchip's point. My name ought to be "contributor", not "contributer". Took me so long to realize. Goes to show that I am bad with spelling. Minor or Prime 09:45, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it seems strange, as I look over it, and I have blanked it and notified the owner of the site to delete it. — Jonas Rand · (talk) 21:56, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I really have to say that is one of the funniest comments ever. 'In reguards to my actions off-wiki, you should only talk about it on-wiki. Everything (except all the things I am doing) should stay on wiki!' Which makes perfect sence.. By us keeping it on-wiki, he gets to see all that people say so he can publish it off-wiki. -- Creol(talk) 23:16, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat userbox[change source]

I just thought you should know that you still have that "This user is a bureaucrat on the Simple English Wikipedia" userbox on your userpage. You should probably remove it to avoid confusion since you resigned your bureaucrat permissions already. Yours, – RyanCross (talk) 06:14, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Creol did this, so that works. :-) Thanks, – RyanCross (talk) 06:22, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Archer7. Now that Creol has left the Simple English Wikipedia, we only have one active bureaucrat. I would like to propose you becoming a bureaucrat again to help deal with the problems we are now facing. Cheers, Razorflame 14:51, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
