Barnstar Congratulations: You have been given a Barnstar!

For deleting vandalous articles, for patrolling recent changes looking for vandalism attempts, and for reverting many vandalous edits. I hereby award you this barnstar! -Razorflame 04:57, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I was wondering why you requested for National Weather Service bulletin for New Orleans region to be merged into the Hurricane Katrina article. I have found that you have left no reason or explanation to it so I was wondering what was the reason. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 23:17, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is very short. It has no useful information that needs to stand alone, outside the article on Hurricane Katrina. I have added comments to the relevant talk pages. -- Barliner  talk  12:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have added more information to the article, while I plan to add more later. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 02:43, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have added more information to National Weather Service bulletin for New Orleans region. So I was wondering if you were going to reconsider about the merging. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 06:02, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dermatologist

What do you mean by stop vandalizing dermatologist. I just tried starting an article... — Preceding unsigned comment added by inherendo (talkcontribs)

Please use a sandbox or write the full article and then post. A single sentence is not an article and is liable to be removed because it may be thought of as vandalism. As yours was not I apologise.-- Barliner  talk  21:17, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I understand now. Inherendo 21:26, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userspace

Why are you removing my suggestion to use his userspace to flesh out his idea? -Razorflame 21:21, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have answered a question to me, without the courtesy of allowing me to reply. You have moved a page into someone else's userspace. Know that redirect must be deleted as a redirect from main to userspace. You have asked for QD and then warned a user. If an article needs to be deleted it would be better for the administrator to issue the warning at that time. -- Barliner  talk  21:28, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You will also note that another admin has deleted the userpage. -- Barliner  talk  21:36, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well then, I guess one bad edit isn't that bad of an idea. I think that for the most part, I will leave you guys to the warnings, unless I know that that user is vandalizing, at which point I will warn the user. -Razorflame 00:03, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no problem warning after you have fixed vandalism but what if the item you QD wasn't eligible for deletion or had been expanded? In that case all that should be needed is removing the qd tag. -- Barliner  talk  13:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

There really isn't a need to have both a test4 and a test4im warning message posted on the same userpage. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 17:46, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Two warnings at the same time. I struck through yours.

Still think it should've been deleted instead of just struck out. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 17:51, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dresden University

The author of the page just removed the inuse template without simplifying much about the article. Maybe you could help him/her get it simplified? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 23:01, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Barliner! Since I'm German and not English, it's kinda hard to tell which words are NOT simple enough. Please change and simplify further, if you think it's needed. Thanks and greetings from Dresden, --88.73.199.46 23:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for your help with my Swiss articles! I really appreciate it. I have also realized that I am actually over-categorizing my pages. Thanks for helping me see this as well. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Its best only to list unique categories. Foe example there is no need to put a page in cat:Switzerland if it is already in cat:towns in a canton, because that cat should be in cat:towns and cat:canton, and cat:canton would be in cat:Switzerland. Sometime it has to be done. Willy Brandt is in Mayors of Berlin and German Chancellors even though both are subcats of German Politicians. Somebody famous as a politician and painter would be listed in subcelse might be listed in cat:Swiss politicians and in Swiss people (because right now there is no subcat for painters) -- Barliner  talk  22:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A question: If a category contains characters like an e with an accent over it, it is alright to create a redirect to the category with the accent over it, but not include the accent in that category, right? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:49, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No categories are sensitive. "church" is the same as "Church" but not "chuRch". Accents make a new letter so they are not the same -- Barliner  talk  16:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Street Children

I am pretty sure that I did a good job editing this and making it more appropriate for this site, so why did you revert my edit? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:26, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You added random links. "Childre" when the article is "child". It was easier to rewrite from the original. -- Barliner  talk  16:28, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was pretty sure that the links that I was adding would help the article. If I added a link to Childre, then that was a mistake. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:30, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I gave this user the test4im warning is because of the large amount of warnings that this user has already recieved. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:00, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a user it is an address that could be used by many people, and has had no warnings since since June.-- Barliner  talk  16:03, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But do you think that I was justified in my right to put the test4im template on him right away because of the high amount of warnings this address has recieved in the past? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No you should always the dates of those warnings as I did. the last one was in the last school year, so is possibly not even the same person. Also, the last contributions are at the end of september/start of october, again probably a different person even though these too were vandals-- Barliner  talk  16:07, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Municipalities

Do you think that each municipality should get it's own page here at Simple English Wikipedia? Most of the municipality pages over at Enlgish wikipedia have links to at least 7-8 other wikis, so it makes it seem as though it might be a good idea to do so. The importance of this is that they are geography locations and being an encyclopedia, we should include them on this site. Is my reasoning sane? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 02:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

QD's

These qd's that I have been posting are the result of me thinking that they are municipalities that are not notable enough to deserve their own pages here on Simple English Wikipedia. There is going to be quite a few of these throughout the day, so I would be on the lookout for them from now on. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:56, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

!

What's the reason is?! Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, which is meaning I can edit per AGF, If there is any reason for one stub template only, please let me know..--OsamaK 17:06, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi could you as a very good editor please copy the article on charlotte and publish it on english wikipedia. would be very nice of you!.--Sinbad 17:45, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article is long enough for a posting to ENWP, but as well as changing some of the spelling, I will have to check it against the BLP rules. English wikipedia is very careful about its rules on biographies of living people. -- Barliner  talk  17:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Checked. You could post it yourself now. -- Barliner  talk  18:06, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but i think it would be better if you did it. I dont have the best reputation on english wikipedia and the article would be deleted by some of the overreacting admins their. So if you kindly could do me this little favour i promise i will not bather you with anymore of theese kind of requests again. You could write on the talk page on the article that you point you that you arent the author of the article. thanks--Sinbad 18:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get these undeleted? I thought that it was not going to be recieved well, but it was, so I need these 4 pages undeleted. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:35, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. Check out the "proud to be" userboxes on my page :). It will probably be 9 and 10 weeks before you would be seriously be considered for admin so why bother with what anyone might think now?. The BS template has an img=option, {BS|message|img=} so that the standard star can be changed. I have brought WP:BARN from ENWP, and commons has a category barnstars http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Barnstars. Things definitely need cheering up. See what I gave User:cometstyles on his userpage

Canton of St. Gallen Redirect

I created this redirect because the infoboxes for all of the municipalities of St. Gallen will be red unless this is created. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 15:59, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Canton of St. Gallen" is not likely to be used as a search term. I can easily fix the redlinks. I will change the infobox, and all articles that use it now or in the future will automatically be corretc. -- Barliner  talk  16:02, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, don't change the infobox, because not every canton uses just the canton name for it's canton page. It would be easier to just create the redirects. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 16:04, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Becoming an administrator

I need advise on becoming an administrator, how much do I have to do?

--Olic1 17:07, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The guidelines are at WP:CfA. Usually we ask for about 3 months editing here, and 1000 edits. This is so we can see what you do, and to show that you will be staying with SEWP. Although I was editing on English wikipedia for several years I became an admin here less than four months after joining. If you want to do the math, that's only about 11 edits per day. 1000 edits also lets us see how you edit articles - as an edit includes changes to your page, this message to me etc. -- Barliner  talk  17:45, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandals

I don't understand how to tackle vandals without an administrator account, could you please help me?

--Olic1 17:15, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can give you some tools if you want. Also, if you look at the page "New Changes", you can see all the the changes made to the site. Our IRC channel usually has a bot to do this too.
At the top of the history page you will see links to edit or undo a change. After you have got rid of the vandalism you should warn the vandal. There are several templates to do this. If you want these are the tools I can let you have. WP:ADMIN has a list of the policies about vandalism, and they are a good place to start. -- Barliner  talk  17:28, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and Minor Help

Thanks for fixing the references section for Heidi Klum. I am having trouble figuring out how to get all the shortcuts when editing pages (hard to explain). On my regular wikipedia account, I have a giant list below the edit box with commonly used Wiki Markup, but I don't have it here. Is there a Preference I need to change? Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 01:46, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I never use them here or on ENWP as I use the toolbar. Most of what you need are probably in the toolbar I use in my monobook.js, if you want to copy it. If you are desperate for the underneath stuff I will check out which code you need. Its been so long I can't remember offhand. Should have written it in my userpages. -- Barliner  talk  01:51, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's the toolbar I need. I just couldn't remember. I will try to find it. Thanks for the help. :D. Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 01:55, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, saying that Heidi Klum has no penis is not vandalism. It's a fact. 76.190.220.7 02:10, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is a fact, but not everything about her has to be said. It is nonsense. Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 02:14, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's no need for the long quotes, unless they add or confirm the statement. Just give the web address, web title and date for most things

Thanks for the help. If you notice anything else I do that is wrong, let me know. Simple English is a little different thatn Regular English, and I will be trying to get used to it. :D. Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 02:31, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

B5fan4lyfeboo23 block

Kind of curious why you blocked this one as an unacceptable username. It is not just a random string of letters (B5 fan for life - boo 23) but just someone announcing their fandom for the band B5 (boo is Boyfriend/significant other (His mi boo, Boo status: single) commonly used by B5 fans.. ). The "Moneyinth3B5fan4lyfeboo23" (money in the) name is likely also just a band related reference. -- Creol(talk) 04:42, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

completely missed the B5 reference, which helps make sense of these extremely long names.-- Barliner  talk  13:21, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense

You asked me not to add a nonsense reply to a nonsensical question? Why did you not remove the nonsensical question itself while you were at it? Do you really consider "[...] how many years has Finland been in Europe and why they called it Europe and how many people live in Europe and [...]" to be a serious question? 213.48.73.89 00:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that the user did not know what Europe was, especially as it is often used as a shorthand for "being a member of the European Union". Therefore your reply "Finland has been in Europe for 225 years. Before that, it was a part of South Asia, but it decided that the area is too humid and moved to Europe. Europe is called Europe because it is named after the "European Wolf". About 30 people live in Europe. They live there because Asia is too full." is nonsensical, unhelpful, and maybe even insulting to the questioner. That is why I removed it. -- Barliner  talk  11:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

East sussex

Why did you delete the population information on East Sussex? I thought it would be useful to know about how many people live there but I thought I'd check with you before reverting it.
Gwib-(talk)- 13:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't, the only change I made was changing 2 links to 1 (L)/(Co-op) to labour cooperative. It must be a bug, because seperate sections of infor have been changed I have come across this bug before in the history of another article. Just revert it to get the population info-- Barliner  talk  13:58, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't sure if that was advertising, but I decided it was, and now I've seen my decision be a correct one. Just thought I would let you know. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw this earlier. As its main purpose was putting teachers in touch with students (selling a service) and it had no real educational value I decided it was advertising -- Barliner  talk  18:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All you needed to do was tell me to change the article spellings to English from British and I would've done so. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing wrong with the spelling. The problem is moving them in the first place. -- Barliner  talk  19:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality cats

Sorry it took so long to reply, work this time of year is hectic.

Long version: I fully support reverting the changes as just because someone is of a specific nationality does not mean they are of a specific ethnic origin. Our nationality cats are based on ethnicity as well as citizenship and origin (parents were from there, became a citizen, was born a citizen). Many people can meet several of these conditions and still certainly not be a part of the ethnic group commonly linked ancestrally there. A perfect example is the singer Seal - born in London, English (British) citizen, parents were Londoners.. He certainly is not of Germanic origins though. Just because a certain ethnic group originally settled an area, this does not mean that decades, centuries and even millennia later the people living there are all the same group. (European jews, White South Africans, British Hong Kongers and Indians (India, not native American), all non-Aborigine Australians, every African, Asian or European American or Canadian... so many examples of not following Country = Ethnicity). While there are cases where it is normal to have thing not exactly correct in categories (Rivers in Russia is in both the Asia and Europe rivers categories even though many of the rivers listed are rarely in both continents but having 2 rivers in russia categories is just odd.. Asian rivers in Russia??), this instance is certainly not the best way of doing it.

Short version: Yeah, go revert that. -- Creol(talk) 07:12, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Barliner,

Thank you for your participation in my RFA which closed successfully with 19 supports and 1 oppose which didn't count since it was made by a sock of a banned user. AWB Help

Hey Barliner. I was wondering if you could put in a good word for me so that I could use AWB. It would really come in handy with my edits here on Simple English Wikipedia. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:24, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The edit functions of AWB are more limited than are available with the enhanced toolbar. I think you would be better off learning the basics, such as simplifing articles, rather than leaping into AWB. Creating massive numbers of pages does not help SEWP. Rather some editors are having to stop what they wish to work on in order to simplify for you.-- Barliner  talk  22:40, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Thanks anyways. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:42, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting Changes

You've been reverting an awful lot of my edits recently. Have I been making bad edits? Please let me know as soon as you think that my edits have been bad so that I can stop making them. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:13, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you reverting my grammar fixes? I am pretty sure that they are good edits. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:23, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are making a lot of minor and sometimes unneeded changes. I just reverted the date in Schubert, 31 January 1797 does not need a comma, even if the US January 31, 1797 does. Tequila, I don't believe is watered down, and percent is better than %, which is linked to.--Bärliner 00:28, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please give me a chance to reply. I do not like having to rewrite a reply because of an edit conflict from someone too impatient to wait. --Bärliner 00:28, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry for that. I am mainly just trying to wikify links and other such stuff like that. If I notice a comma that is missing from a sentence that needs it, then I will make a comma appear there. I am mainly just trying to make good, constructive edits here, but it appears as if they are unneeded. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:31, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I like your new signature :) Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:32, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its not that they aren't needed. But they make very little difference, and there is so much more that you could do. Expand articles, for example. I haven't checked but just how much has been written about Wisconsin? And Switzerland of cause, how is that coming along.? BTW I've only reverted 4 items on 2 articles, and balance that with reverting gwib back to what you had. Merry Christmas--Bärliner 00:38, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Switzerland has been coming along nicely. I've just been making other edits instead of making articles about Switzerland because of the fact that I have been growing tired of making pages about Switzerland. I have still been making Switzerland articles though. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 00:41, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection of Category:English People

I would suggest full protection of Category:English People. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:31, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You obviously know at least a little about this, have you been reading the latest exchanges on user talk:Wodanaz?--Bärliner 18:34, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I have been reading it. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:35, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just wondered. Knew you were about last time. I'm not reverting anything until today's talk is over.--Bärliner 18:37, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've already been reverting the changes to the category of English People, otherwise, if you don't want me to, I will stop until the talks are over. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:38, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It could just mean him reverting again and inflaming the situation.--Bärliner 18:40, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'll stop for now. Let me know if you need help with the situation in the future. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:41, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since Wodanaz was blocked, I figured that it would be alright for me to revert his changes to the articles Irish people, Scottish people, and that other one. Let me know if I did the wrong thing. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:52, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you know what you are doing. You were simply undoing perfectly legitimate changes. I must also say that you have put comments on user:wodanaz talk page which did not help the situation but made them worse and prevented me from trying to make an explanation. Please don't jump in with warnings when a discussion is under way.--Bärliner 18:56, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry. I did not know what I was doing when I was making the changes to his talk page. I thought that his changes to the category warranted a warning about it, but I never stopped to consider what his reaction would be. I completely failed in my trying to help the situation. From now on, I will let you deal with that user. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:58, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Barliner, I'm not very good with templates. Do you think you could comb through this template and remove the parts that add extra categories to pages for me please? Thanks in advance Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:14, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks a little interesting now. Thanks for the help. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:03, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There we go! I think I fixed it now. Lemme go check Zug (canton) to see if it got the categories out. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:21, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! That fixed it! It was actually pretty easy to fix. Just removed the last 2 lines of code on that page and that was all I had to do! Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:23, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if my fix up of this article wasn't up to snuff. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:25, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You changed some stuff, and left others. I started editing on on old version and change lots more. I also happened to know what the article meant by the border area and population drop. Hope I'm still in your friends list :) --Bärliner 19:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why wouldn't you still be in my friends list? You've helped me acclimitize to this site more than anyone else. It's because of you that I am editing this site as much as I have been. I like this site, and you have helped me like it more than if you weren't a friend of mine. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:33, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This came up on IRC as I was writing. (19:26:02)<SWBot3>Whitelist simple:User:Razorflame Large removal simple:User:Razorflame (-22) Diff: http://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Razorflame&diff=649984&oldid=649924 "Removing Creol from friends list per message left on user's talk page."

I was just wondering if they were from commons. Thought I'd ask you instead of doing anything about it first. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vice Bune RfD Vote crossout

Hey Barliner, I wanted to ask you if it was alright of me to cross out Liberator's Keep vote from this RfD because of the fact that he was indef blocked. Was I justified in my strikethrough of this user's vote? Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:32, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Athens should have a disambiguation page because of the fact that there are more than 2 uses for the name Athens. I've already moved Athens to Athens, Greece to make room for the disambiguation page, and have made the disambiguation page in Athens. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I checked twice, and was redirected to Athens, Greece. --Bärliner 21:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure I made the disambig page...Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LDC is a proper noun so I would say not --Bärliner 21:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moved it back, but I think we should leave the redirect in case of people searching for it. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:26, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for making so much work for you. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:33, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was fixing a double redirect and redirecting it to the correct article. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You blanked the page. You also described it wrongly in the edit summary. I became confused because of edit conflicts which would not have happened if you had made all the changes at once.--Bärliner 22:05, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know what the correct article was the first time, so I had to go hunt it down. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then why blank the page? Either the redirect needed fixing or it needed deleting as nonsense. Blanking the page is in itself vandalism--Bärliner 22:11, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't my intention. I was just trying to fix the double redirect. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:13, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
