Re: International Fellowship of St. Bruno

Thanks for your help!

(cross-posted to Djsasso's talk) Hello Bruno, the article that you wrote is not notable to the encyclopedia. Yahoo Groups are generally not reliable sources, and the website that was linked had less than 5000 hits - not really that notable. Please take time to read up on our guidelines that I have posted on your talk page. Thanks, Goblin 16:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't citing Yahoogroups as a "source" it is our forum host,(Group name IFSB) with thousands of posts on it going back to 1999. As for the www.saintbruno.org website, it has well over 20,000 hits, but since I redesigned the first page, the hit counter only reflects visits to the new page, and is thus inaccurate in recording the actual number of hits in the site's history. The hit counter is not under my control, my host is Homestead.com, and it does not retain an accurate hit count when redesigning a page.

I do think I can get a chart of actual website usage. My question now is how can I get an article on Wiki about the IFSB that won't get deleted? Bruno1084 (talk) 16:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that you work on the article in your "sandbox" and ask other editors for help with it. Read up on [[Wikipedia:How to write Simple English articles], Wikipedia:Notability and related articles as that will let you know what you need to get into your article. If you need any more help, just ask! Thanks, Goblin 16:33, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you revert me? As you can see, those hooks have not been addressed or followed up on for weeks. In one case, the last comment was from January 26. These are stale noms and, per the usual procedure, should be removed. Either way (talk) 21:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent DYK update

Hello, I believe when we started DYK, we agreed for updates to be on the Main Page for at least a day. You recently updated when it only up for about 18 hours from the last update I did. Next time, please remember to wait a full 24 hours before adding the next update (unless, of course, changes were made to DYK that I am not aware of regarding this). No worries, thanks. — RyanCross (talk) 23:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ryan,
Due to the backlog and staleness that DYK has been getting, and in an attempt to stop people moaning that is inactive, I felt, with support of a couple of editors, that twice daily updates (every 12-ish hours) would work better. What are your thoughts on this? We can revert to daily if necessary. Cheers, Goblin 08:59, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are not many DYK nominations currently. Though, if we do get to have many nominations that are becoming stale, then I'm sure doing an earlier update would be appropriate to clear the backlog of nominations quicker. — RyanCross (talk) 23:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... fair point. Shall we say every three days as standard, more frequent if there is a backlog? Cheers, Goblin 10:42, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

School project userbox

Hi, I'm not exactly sure what should be on it - something like "This editor can help with a School project" or similar. Image wise I would think something schoolish - ABC or a teacher hat (mortar board). I'm happy to leave it to your artistic talents and coding ability - this is not an area where I have any ability. --Peterdownunder (talk) 10:56, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have started the box here. Feel free to make any changes you like! Perhaps we need a category like Category:School Project helpers or something? Kennedy (talk) 11:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good :) I'll have a look over it later! I don't think a Category is needed at the moment, as there are only three of using it, but I suppose that building in future compatibility will work :) Cheers, Goblin 11:28, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Belgian provinces ---> keep the diacritics

Hi there BG7. When you move the Belgian provinces, do you think you could keep the diacritics (the weird things above or below some letters)? Thanks, Razorflame 18:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Erm... I can... but you said name as en.wp... so I did. I'll keep the diacratics version from now on, and i'll reverse the rest of the redirects. Ta, Goblin 19:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
:D I didn't know that. If that is how the English Wikipedia has them named, then keep them like that. Cheers, Razorflame 19:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed them all per en.wp, as you said. If they are spelt like that there, I changed them here. Goblin 19:19, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then, no changes need to be made. Thanks, Razorflame 19:21, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The point is en.wiki hasn't decided if diacritics should be used. Its a big battlezone. I personally believe they should be there and that the en articles are named improperly. However the pro-removal people feel the names with them are incorrect so some articles would use them and some would not. En.wiki is split about 50/50 on the topic. Basically the current rule on en is that you don't change it if it is one way or the other, just like the differences between us english and british english. That should also apply here. -Djsasso (talk) 21:39, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
e/cBitch it out amongst yourselves away from my talk page. I don't care - I've made my views at Simple talk. If you still want me to do it when you've decided, then ask. I was asked to do one thing, and I did it. Don't bitch to me about it. Goblin 21:41, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am not bitching about it, I didn't notice you replied on simple talk. Relax. -Djsasso (talk) 21:47, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Really? In that case no more needs to be said. Especially in two place. Case closed as far as i'm concerned. Goblin 21:49, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BG7, I'll see what I can do about the things you want help with. I see you've already nominated at PGA which isn't a big problem at all, you did bags of work on it beforehand and that's highly commendable, we'll see what we can do. I'll be online briefly probably every day for the next three and then offline until I hopefully make it safely back to the UK. Don't know how long it's going to take to get my broadband re-established but hopefully it'll happen automatically, fingers crossed. I hope to be of further use to you as soon as I can. In the meantime, ciao for now, from Mexico. The Rambling Man on tour (talk) 00:46, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey TRM, thanks a lot! I nominated under the pretence that I will likely get it all finished before the two weeks discussion is up, and hopefully before. Many other users also feel that it is at a good article standard as well. No worries when you are online - there's some stuff on the talk page and and i'll add more if I find anything. I hope you enjoy the last few days of your trip, and all I can say is I am jealous! Thanks for all your help :) Regards, Goblin 11:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note

Sorry, but I do not think that you should be closing AfDs if you are not an administrator. I believe that the closure of Scrub (Fighting Game) was incorrectly done. So what if there were 3 votes to keep, there were 2 votes to delete, which means that there was not clear enough consensus for the closure as keep. Please make sure that you only close AfDs that have clear consensus to either keep or delete. That one case was not one of those cases. Thanks, Razorflame 06:20, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If there is no consensus, its basically a keep is it not? Its kept for now, so BG7 closing the RfD is not a big deal. Kennedy 11:14, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What he said. It was closure time, I didn't see a reason for it to be deleted. Ok, perhaps I should have said "per no consensus" but a no consensus = a keep, what Kennedy said. Goblin 11:16, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I guess that you are right. I have reopened the RfD because I think that it did not have clear enough consensus. Cheers, Razorflame 14:17, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm Sparticus!

Oh sweet! An impersonator, Is it okay to feel slightly honoured? :) Kennedy 11:15, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simple News Part Deux

Hey BG. I was doing some thinking about Simple News, and I think I have an idea which would be pretty neat. The interview section you have is a great idea, but right now it simply seems autobiographical.

What I'm thinking is an Editor Spotlight section in each SN, where we ask an editor to write an autobiographical article. Following that, the interview remains but becomes more in depth and relevant to current events (For instance, a detailed interview on the Image Uploader policy).

Just a thought. I'll be on IRC in about three hours. Cheers!

P.S. Look at my sweet new signature :D DefenseSupportParty 10:16, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there,
It sounds like a good idea, and could probably be made to work in some way or another! You should probably ping Kennedy about this too though as the QandA section was his idea originally.
Speak on IRC later, and that would be at about 1300 UTC/GMT :P - you were spot on!
And yes, great new sig... where did you get the inspiration from I wonder?!?! :P
Goblin 10:19, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I cba with all the long winded discussion - take it in whatever way you want, but just be bold and do it. This is the whole reason that and WP:IAR etc are here. The discussion is just getting pointless now. Goblin 20:01, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
True. In order to do it, I'm going to need the help of an administrator, though. Do you recommend that I ask one to help me, since technically there is a supermajority in favor? Cheers, –obentomusubi 20:07, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh, go for it :). If you need help getting someone, just ping me, there's a few on IRC. Ta, Goblin 20:09, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

Hey, I noticed you marked DYK as inactive. Did I miss something? I was just about to update when I saw the inactive tags everywhere. — RyanCross (talk) 01:15, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, we decided to kill it because it was just becoming too stale and inactive. Whilst there were users such as me and yourself who wished to maintain it, there were simply not enough users nominating hooks for it. If you look at how many closure discussions it had it was unlikely to survive another one, which would have been opened yesterday, and thus it was easier to kill it. It had it's heyday, and it will hopefully live once again once the community become bigger, but it till then I think it should remain dormant. Cheers, Goblin 08:44, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Try again?

Let's try the code again on Common.js. Then, press Ctrl + F5, and see if it works. obentomusubi 19:46, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, it's back in Common.js, lets have a looksy :) Goblin 19:54, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... it works now. Could it be that i'm now in Firefox as opposed to Chrome? I'll just do some cross-browser testing as well. Thanks, Goblin 19:57, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, coolness. One step ahead of the game! Cheers, obentomusubi 19:59, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, findings below:
  • Firefox - checkY
  • Chrome - checkY LOGGED IN ONLY
  • Opera - style="background:#FFC7C7;vertical-align:middle;text-align:center;" class="table-no"|No
  • Safari - checkY LOGGED IN ONLY
  • IE8 - style="background:#FFC7C7;vertical-align:middle;text-align:center;" class="table-no"|No
  • IE7 - checkY
I haven't tried Firefox logged out nor have I tried Camino or Netscape. I don't have Netscape and Camino is OS specific for Mac.
These results don't look to promising i'm afraid. I never expected it to work in IE8 as nothing does, but some of the other results are surprising. Further testing is certainly needed before it is fully implemented, which I will carry out tomorrow if that is ok. If the results aren't improved upon then I think we will need to look further into the matter. Regards, Goblin 20:22, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, {{pgood}} and {{pvgood}} still need "broken" new icons. Cheers, Goblin 20:28, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not good at doing the broken stuff, but my idea was to make it transparent. Like they're almost ready to become ones, but aren't quite there (opaque) yet. So, does the icon thing not look good? Yeesh. obentomusubi 22:30, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, could you add to the Common.js code under the MarginLeft thing 4 or 5px instead of 3px? Thanks! obentomusubi 07:16, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which article?

Hi, I made some changes to Biltong, and you reverted them without reason. Can you clarify please? Jamsta (talk) 12:23, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jamsta, please forgive me if I incorrectly reverted your edits to Biltong as I know nothing about the subject, but I felt that they were "test edits" due to the large amount of content change. Actually, I do have a question. Does Twinkle work with Simple English Wikipedia? :] Thanks again,Papercutbiology♫ (talk)) 12:59, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Certain parts of Twinkle work over here, but need to be added manually which you can find in my .sj file. It's still quite tempramental and it doesn't all work - it's an ongoing process to simplify it and bring it up to scratch with Simple's templates, policies etc. We do have other tools available though such as Rollback and Vandal Warner - a "simpler" version of Twinkle if you will. Thanks, Goblin 13:02, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, then. Not exactly interested in playing around with the monobook over here. I'll just use the "undo" tool...as I already have rollback rights on the English Wikipedia, and I probably won't be over here very often. Thank you again, Papercutbiology♫ (talk)) 13:08, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok no worries :). If you do change your mind about Rollback then WP:RfR is available, or just ask an admin. Cheers, Goblin 13:10, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
