Welcome[change source]

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Peterdownunder (talk) 21:26, 25 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

new pages with redirects[change source]

I see that you did decide to create the wanted page. But it would be helpful if you created the main page before creating redirects to it in the future, to avoid confusion and 404 issues. Hope this helps you :) Computer Fizz (talk) 01:45, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Computer Fizz: Sorry about that, and you did the right thing marking them since the link was broken. I didn't expect them to be tagged that quickly, but I'll make sure to make the destination pages first in the future. Brantmeierz (talk) 01:48, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New stub type[change source]

Hello, Brantmeierz, and welcome to Simple English Wikipedia. I noticed that you created a template and category for a new stub type. You probably didn't know, but on this Wikipedia new stub types need to be discussed and approved at Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project before being created. We try to keep the number of stub types to a minimum. Previous discussions on the page I linked can give you an idea of what is wanted before new stub types are created. Wikipedia:Simple Stub Project#New stubs gives further information. Since the category and template for name stubs were not approved, I have deleted them and changed the page that the template was used on.

If you are interested in other ways that this wiki is different, you can look at a list I keep at User:Auntof6/simplediffs. That list is not a policy or guideline, just a list of things that are helpful for new users here to know. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:04, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

December 2019[change source]

Hello! Thank you for creating a new category. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 07:15, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: Sorry for the template and category mistakes! I wasn't aware of those policies, and I appreciate you linking your page of differences and the category page. I've worked mostly on other wikis, so learning the things that are done different here early on is very helpful. Brantmeierz (talk) 01:38, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Many people, including me, have gotten tripped up by the differences when they first come here. --Auntof6 (talk) 02:26, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

your bot account[change source]

Hello. You may not know, but bots are not allowed to run without approval by the community. I have posted your bot to VIP, not because it's vandalizing, but because it needs to be blocked. If you want to request to use a bot, you can post a request here. Let me know if something is confusing :) Computer Fizz (talk) 01:18, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Computer Fizz: I am aware of that, but it's not ready to actually run currently; I just made the account so I could use it in my code. I plan to request authorization before it performs any automated actions. I know that the account did perform an edit, but that was only one I did accidentally while logged in as it - rather than autonomously. Brantmeierz (talk) 05:10, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Alright I guess that's a legitamite point. My bot account isn't even attatched to this wiki, but I guess maybe I was probably just confused as to why you created a userpage for it. As long as you don't edit until it's approved though, everything is okay.
A side point though, when most people undo edits they put the reason after the built-in summary, but I've noticed you put yours before. Is there a particular reason for this, or just preference? It's not a particular problem, I'm just wondering. Computer Fizz (talk) 06:31, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Computer Fizz: When I see the "Undid revision..." message, I'm less likely to look to the end to see what text (if any) was added. I feel like the reason is more important than the default text, so I put it in the front so it's more likely to be seen. So it is just preference, but that's my reasoning for it. Declined QD[change source]

Hi Brantmeierz. I've declined your QD of I'm Shmacked because it has a claim. Please feel free to nominate it through RfD. Thank you, Vermont (talk) 04:06, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

warning ltas[change source]

Hello there. Incase you didn't know, the Relaymessag account is controlled by a Long-term abuser (LTA for short), who's been vandalizing and evading blocks here since 2005. You shouldn't put warnings on their talk pages as it doesn't do anything and violates WP:DENY, just rollback their edits and wait for an admin to block. If you've got any more questions about LTAs, let me know :) Computer Fizz (talk) 00:29, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Computer Fizz: Is there a way to determine that a new account is controlled by an LTA without checkuser rights? And WP:DENY explicitly states "Revert and warn them like other users", so even if placing warnings on the page of an account unknowingly controlled by an LTA is a waste of effort it doesn't seem like a violation of a rule. Brantmeierz (talk) 00:54, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Brantmeierz: Incase my message was confusing, I didn't mean that you could get in trouble for this (i.e. just a small gesture that you could improve with), just that it's better to not warn him and that any admin will block him on sight. This person is banned by the WMF and has zero right to edit this wiki or any other wikimedia wiki. He has no need for warnings. You can usually tell by behavioral stuff, just something you get a feel for, trigger words, actions, editing habits. That particular LTA is called the "George Reeves Person" (GRP). You can ask @Antandrus: to tell you more about him. But there's several other LTAs you will have to watch out for too. Computer Fizz (talk) 03:19, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Astronism[change source]

I have declined the QD request because the stated reason does not satisfy any of the criteria in the deletion policy. Feel free to nominate the article for deletion at WP:RFD instead. Chenzw  Talk  02:10, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Chenzw: I've nominated it through RfD instead. I know I didn't explicitly mention A4 in the QD message, but is there a reason that wouldn't qualify for quick deletion under that criteria? Brantmeierz (talk) 03:09, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
1) the subject of the article is not a person, group, company, product, service, or website as required by A4; 2) there is a notability claim (albeit weak) in "it spread through digital platforms and through Cometan's personal relations to North America, Continental Europe, and China". Chenzw  Talk  03:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chenzw: Thanks for the clarification. Brantmeierz (talk) 03:40, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Creating RFD's[change source]

When creating RFD's, please transclude them into Wikipedia:Requests for deletion so other users will easily see them on that page. You can use Twinkle to help create one. Thanks, Zaxxon0 (talk) 14:36, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Zaxxon0: Ah, I always forget that isn't done automatically. And I didn't know Twinkle had the functionality to do that, thanks for the tip. Brantmeierz (talk) 00:42, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rollbacker[change source]

Congrats on becoming a rollbacker. Proceed cautiously with your new user right and realize it can removed as easily as it is given. You have many fellow editors here ready and willing to help should you have any questions. As always, I'm available at #wikipedia-simple connect and #cvn-simplewikis connect if you'd like to speak with me or ask questions in real time. QD requests[change source]

Hi, Brantmeierz. When you make a QD request, please use one of the defined QD options. We can QD a page only when one of those criteria applies. If none of them is met, you can use RFD to request deletion. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 03:55, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: Sorry, I didn't know that was mandatory for deletion. I just learned of the Twinkle interface for QD requests so I'll make sure to use that in the future. Brantmeierz (talk) 06:38, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On what basis did you roll back the restoration of the vandalized article about Pridnestrovie? Pridnestrovian editor (talk) 17:36, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pridnestrovian editor: I was working on a message on your talk page when you posted this, so check there for my response. Let me know if you have any questions. Brantmeierz (talk) 17:38, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
