PurpleFroggy[change source]

Is this yet another sockpuppet of the Disney vandal? Pmlinediter  Talk 12:43, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe so. If anyone would like confirmation, I will file a RFCU. Chenzw  Talk  12:50, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't remove that indef-block though. Pmlinediter  Talk 12:52, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Since you have 2 years of experience at en, can you please tell me what you think of en:The Lightning Thief? Thanks. Pmlinediter  Talk 12:55, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me, but you could see if the section "Style and Genre" could be merged into "Reception" (due to "Reviewers have generally regarded..."). That section seems to be too short. Chenzw  Talk  12:58, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think its actualy advertising as the article exists on most other big wikis. I think it should probably just be moved to the actual article space. But I will leave it up to you. You deleted it just as I was about to move it. -Djsasso (talk) 03:59, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually looking at how many people just created articles in their talk space I suspect its either a school class or a vandal. Most likely a class. -Djsasso (talk) 04:04, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The page has been restored. It sure needs a lot of cleanup though. Chenzw  Talk  04:05, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Based on old comments on a talk page of someone who just moved an article I think it is a Korean class. See User talk:Fortietfideli. -Djsasso (talk) 04:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Titleblacklist[change source]

I saw your recent change there. Should RHMED also have this newaccountonly after the name? Barras (talk) 09:27, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think any article will have "RHMED" in it, so it doesn't hurt not including the tag. Chenzw  Talk  09:40, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That means the tag is only useful if a title of an article could have this name, right? Barras (talk) 09:42, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It has probably got to do with server load as well, though I don't exactly know the impact of this. Chenzw  Talk  14:52, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My Students' Class Project[change source]

Hello,

I understand why you deleted the stubs created by my students, but as a teacher I find it very frustrating. I am trying to usher my students through a process. What is the "class project" banner for if it is not a request for patience? My students are writing and editing their articles before putting their writing on Simple English Wikipedia and exposing it to editors. If no one had previously created stubs for those topics, those topics were obviously not in great demand. I don't understand the harm in creating the stub and then waiting for an entry to be added in the coming weeks.

There are only so many things I can teach my students to do in one 90-minute period per week, and they have limited time in the computer lab. I suppose they can do it again on their own, so the time I spent showing them how to create the article and put up the banner wasn't a total loss, but it seems like an unnecessary inconvenience to force them to do it again. As a new Wikipedia user, would you please explain to me what kind of leeway the class project banner affords? Perhaps I have misunderstood its use.

Keroobean (talk) 08:10, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chenzw, Keroobean left a message on my talk page asking for assistance with his project. I would like to restore his classes work and let the class continue with their project. At the end of the project we can assess whether or not the pages meet our requirements. This is what our Schools project page basically says. I don't want to get into an edit war. Can you restore the deletes, or leave me a message? Thanks. --Peterdownunder (talk) 12:41, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We could restore the pages and move them to a usernames space. That would be the best in my opinion. When the project has finished we can move them back. Barras (talk) 13:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would be better than mainspace. In addition, I am rather concerned about licensing issues. Perhaps there should also be some explanation about the GFDL and the CC-BY-SA 3.0 (with effect 15 June) to the project groups. Chenzw  Talk  13:50, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If no one obeject I would go on and restore the pages and move them in the name space of Kerrbean? Barras (talk) 13:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(unindenting) Yes, I think there's no objection. It's userspace anyway. Chenzw  Talk  13:57, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Restored, moved and re-deleted. Barras (talk) 14:09, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

QandA
  • The QandA. Every month, Kennedy interviewed one of the Simple English Wikipedia's editors, asking them about themselves, and their opinions on Wikipedia. It was an exciting insight behind the anonymous face of an online username. Unfortunately, Kennedy has left us, and will obviously not be doing the QandA. Bluegoblin7 has taken it over.

This weeks interview is with Juliancolton.

Clarification[change source]

Could you clarify your closing statement at Wikipedia:Requests for deadminship/Billz? The bit about how he can get his flag back is slightly contradictory. :) EVula // talk // // 15:57, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He's saying that despite there being mixed feelings/discussions on the RfdA about getting the flag back, Billz can request the flag back uncontroversially at any time. Best, Goblin 16:55, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's the "until" that's throwing me off. I figure that's what he meant, but I'd still like for Chenzw to clarify... if for no other reason than so he can tweak his statement, in the vein of "editing what other people have said is a massively bad idea". :) EVula // talk // // 16:58, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure that's fine ;). Just thought i'd jump in as we were chatting on IRC about it so I knew what he meant. Regards, Goblin 17:07, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Done --Chenzw  Talk  01:55, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please move the article Wijerd Jelckama back. It was a DYK article, and a GA nominee. It links to many pages and he is an important figure in Frisian history and absolutely notable. The article has been simplified by me and many other editors and had 9 votes in favour of promoting it to GA tomorrow. Pmlineditor who placed the tag agreed with me he should not have done it: it was a good article, well written and simple, and deleting it is nonsense. Mighty Wodan (talk) 13:38, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article has already been undeleted. Please refer to my reply on Barras' talk page. Chenzw  Talk  13:39, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

96 revisions, ex-DYK and considered for GA, and you delete it... without even giving me a chance to improve it - or rewrite it... Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You had chances. In that one month since the creation of the article, there has been no visible attempt to simplify the article. The article still looks the same as the one at EN. Chenzw  Talk  14:08, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you undelete it again? Then I will completely rewrite it. If I would start it again I would lose all my contributions and those of others that were made to it... then it would be as if it never excisted, but it did. Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:11, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here looks like a good place to start. Meetare Shappy Cunkelfratz! 14:12, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done. You can move it back to mainspace when you think it is good enough. Chenzw  Talk  14:16, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll do my best then. Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:17, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that. One more thing: if I have made the article into a brand new article of fine quality, will it stand a chance for GA if I nominate it again and it has a quality similar to the last version? And can someone help me - i am no native speaker or writer of English. Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:21, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it can be promoted if it meets the requirements. For article help, you might want to ask The Rambling Man. Chenzw  Talk  14:25, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Won't the editors here fail the article right away, knowing about it's previous history? Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:30, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. We didn't let the one in the mainspace pass because it met the QD criteria. If you can prove this is fully written without copying from enwiki, it will pass. Meetare Shappy Cunkelfratz! 14:34, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

nice to hear that, appreciate it. Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:42, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chenzw, btw: you moved the article to User:Mighty Wodan/Wijerd Jelckama, can you move the deleted talk:Wijerd Jelckama to User:Mighty Wodan/talk:Wijerd Jelckama aswell so that won't be lost either? Would be great! Mighty Wodan (talk) 14:42, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored and moved the talk page to User talk:Mighty Wodan/Wijerd Jelckama (rather than User:Mighty Wodan/talk:Wijerd Jelckama, that way the two can stay together). EVula // talk // // 16:06, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Although I regret you people deleted the page, this is certainly a solution I can live with for now. Now it is up to me to make it into a fine page, move the whole thing back and re-nominate it for GA. Mighty Wodan (talk) 16:13, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plz. do not erase my article.[change source]

Plz, stop erasing my article on 2NE1. It's a class homework, so the article should be on the wikipedia for a month. At least for a month, plz let my article on the site. plz. 2NE1 is a very famous Korean singer group, so it deserves to be on wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdwmax (talkcontribs)

Unfortunately, the article you have written does not comply with our quality standards. If you really must have the article, you can create it in your userspace (such as User:Mdwmax/2NE1). Chenzw  Talk  08:18, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

EhJRCBot[change source]

I haven't been able to get pgkbot or SWMTBot to run, so I've left a very simple bot that just filters out bots from RC and posts it to #cvn-simplewikis. If you start up Chenzw4 or see another bot running, feel free to kill mine with EhJRCBot: die. Thanks! EhJJTALK 02:10, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated some of the functionality of EhJRCBot. Most importantly, if you need it to be quiet, send EhJRCBot: quiet (rather than "die"). Full instructions about updated functions are at User:EhJJ/EhJRCBot. EhJJTALK 04:07, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought you might not have seen.[change source]

Per meta:Right to vanish Logs - Administrative and editorial logs showing matters you have been involved with, during your career as an editor, such as your edit history on other pages, will usually remain accessible under your old name. In otherwords you probably shouldn't have changed his name so that the log of his block history can remain visible for historical reasons. But I will leave that call up to you, just didn't know if you had seen this. -Djsasso (talk) 03:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per a brief discussion on IRC, the user will be given a null block when he ever wishes to come back. Chenzw  Talk  03:53, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Jackson[change source]

Hi! I've replaced the pp on Michael Jackson back to semi. There have been quite a few acts of vandalism on the page now and there hasn't really been any good edits by anons. Cheers fr33kman talk 03:07, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. Apparently there has been some "controversy" over his death as well. Chenzw  Talk  03:18, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
