Actually, you don't really need to leave talkback notices on my user talk. WP:AN is a page that is heavily watched by almost every administrator, and this is a small wiki. We will be able to see new messages on AN. Chenzw  Talk  14:43, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ready for the flood. Can you grant me that now?--Pratyya (Hello!) 13:44, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey???!!!!--Pratyya (Hello!) 14:27, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not quite sure if you are really going to be flooding. If you are going to be creating 3-15 pages in your userspace, then wait 20 or so minutes before repeating the cycle, sorry, I wouldn't consider that repetitive and frequent enough to be called flooding. For flooding, we are probably expecting something similar to this. I don't think you will end up flooding Special:RecentChanges if you intend to space your edits 20-30 minutes apart. Furthermore, as volunteers, we all have limited time available. If we end up not being free enough to keep track of changes made while the flood flag is active, we have to remove the flag. Please let me know when you intend to make a sustained volume of edits to your userspace. Chenzw  Talk  14:40, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As a point of (possible) interest, I was asked to limit repetitve changes to about 100 within a short period of time when not working under the flood flag. If you're doing less than that, then your fellow editors can live with seeing your edits in new changes. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 22:00, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question[change source]

Is a user allowed to delete the content of his own user talk?Reception123 / Receptie123 (talk) 18:47, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata weekly summary #62[change source]

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.

Lincoln predictions[change source]

As I wrote on 21:39, 13 June 2013, ‎ it is widely believed that Lincoln might have known of his assassination before he died. According to Ward Hill Lamon, Lincoln's friend and biographer, three days before his assassination Lincoln discussed with Lamon and others a dream he had, saying:

"About ten days ago, I retired very late. I had been up waiting for important dispatches from the front. I could not have been long in bed when I fell into a slumber, for I was weary. I soon began to dream. There seemed to be a death-like stillness about me. Then I heard subdued sobs, as if a number of people were weeping. I thought I left my bed and wandered downstairs. There the silence was broken by the same pitiful sobbing, but the mourners were invisible. I went from room to room; no living person was in sight, but the same mournful sounds of distress met me as I passed along. I saw light in all the rooms; every object was familiar to me; but where were all the people who were grieving as if their hearts would break? I was puzzled and alarmed. What could be the meaning of all this? Determined to find the cause of a state of things so mysterious and so shocking, I kept on until I arrived at the East Room, which I entered. There I met with a sickening surprise. Before me was a catafalque, on which rested a corpse wrapped in funeral vestments. Around it were stationed soldiers who were acting as guards; and there was a throng of people, gazing mournfully upon the corpse, whose face was covered, others weeping pitifully. 'Who is dead in the White House?' I demanded of one of the soldiers, 'The President,' was his answer; 'he was killed by an assassin.' Then came a loud burst of grief from the crowd, which woke me from my dream. I slept no more that night; and although it was only a dream, I have been strangely annoyed by it ever since." Lincoln of course laughed it off but one wonders what Lincoln thought? I am sure he had long since taken a fatalistic attitude as to his office and his life. He know there were many who wanted to kill him and given the chance they would. Col. Crook who worked detail at the White House when Lincoln went to Fords Theater for the last time said something that got Crooks attention...Every evening he would say to Crook as he left or retired "goodnight Crook" ...On the night of April 14, 1865...He walked out to Crook and said "GOODBYE Crook". It really got Crooks attention Lincoln had never said that before. But it was just chance...Who knew, most of all Lincoln.

So, why is not allowed on here, I know it is silly to think that dreams can predict the future but it is on the Lincoln assassination on Wikipedia on English, so why not here? 15:37, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Osiris sums it up pretty well over here. Chenzw  Talk  16:06, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please give me a link to the message itself? Chenzw  Talk  15:01, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is on the users user page "Hello everybody, if anything or someone's contributions are wrong. Please report them to me. I will handle the user for a little while and if I am not satisfied with the user. I will report the user to an administrator. Thank you!".Reception123 / Receptie123 (talk) 15:04, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(TPS) It doesn't seem that bad actually. It could be construed as he is willing to try to 'mentor' the user and teach them how to contribute positively. He does say if he can't then an admin would deal with them. As an admin (Chenzw is too, and may have a different POV) I'd be happy if someone tried to reason with a troublesome user and teach them how to contribute before taking formal action. Anyway, I'll stop snooping, I'll be over there if you need me... → :P Kennedy (talk) 15:10, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ZW, would you like to help with en:2013 Singapore haze and en:2013 Southeast Asian haze? Perhaps you want to chip in there and put in whatever information you know/can find? Cheers. :) Arctic Kangaroo () 02:37, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ZW, I'm puzzled. You always start with a L2 warning, but here you start with L3 straightaway. I have come across many instances of bad vandalism or obvious bad faith here and gave straight L3 warning, but you always feedback to me about giving L2 warning. Could you just let me understand why you did so? Cheers. Arctic Kangaroo () 04:42, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That was because the editor attempted to disguise their vandalism through the edit summary. The edit summary was written with the intention to mislead recent changes patrollers. Chenzw  Talk  05:23, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Then what if the edit summary says nothing, but it's obvious vandalism, like the insertion of profanities, "trolololol", insulting the reader or subject of article, or something like these? Arctic Kangaroo () 15:45, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Generally you should start at 1 or 2. On some rare instances something higher is warranted. Most people prefer you start on 1. I tend to start on 2. -DJSasso (talk) 15:47, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(change conflict)  In that case, I would start off with a L2 warning. Then again, it depends on the situation. There are exceptions possible - eg. sustained, heavy vandalism during a period of time when no admin is active, and then you go online and notice it. For such a situation, I would tend to block immediately. There is no rule indicating that you have to start from a particular level when you warn vandals. Just use your own discretion and consider the past contribution history of the IP. Of course, do keep in mind that most IPs (I am not even talking about school IPs) are shared by different people (who are mostly unrelated to one another). Template:Period color testcase page and issues using this template because of revert[change source]

I went onto the testcases page of Template:Period color and all the colors ended up wiped out with your revert. This comment also applys to the admins noticeboard but I found you reverting it (in the history page) and I know you're one (list of admins page). When you reverted:

  • all colors were wiped out for the stages
  • some misspellings came
  • and invented codes came too.

The invented codes were:

  • All of Permian including the Permian
  • Cretaceous epochs
  • Devonian epochs
  • Palaeoproterozoic epochs
  • Eoarchaean
  • Upper Ordovician
  • A couple more
  • Actually all invented values are more grayish

The misspellings were: (correct spelling here)

  • Darriwilian stage Ordovician
  • Jiangshanian stage Cambrian
  • Terreneuvian epoch Cambrian
  • Removal of spelling compatibility for the simple english.wiki

Your changes caused:

I made a bunch of changes so that one change you make to a (all period) template(s) will mess up many (all) templates using them. I guess it's time for you to change back your reverts too my last revision to fix every issue I mention here. Actually I mention every single issue here. 24.218.110.195 (talk) 22:15 20 June 2013 (UTC) 6:15pm 06/20/2013 EDT.

The reason of protection says edit warring and dispute. There is no edit war, I was fixing and updating values and updating it from sandbox and fixing/adding spellings.. Some changes were made before I made sandbox. During this time there was no dispute. The history has just me doing the fixing and updating and fixing/adding spellings. 24.218.110.195 (talk) 00:09 21 June 2013 (UTC) 8:09pm 06/20/2013 EDT.
Finally, I have been waiting for you to give me a response regarding this. You had 4 days to challenge the reversion. Since I have decided to give you ample warning before undoing the changes, I had hoped that the same courtesy will be extended to me in that you let me know about any concerns you have. Please also address the concerns of the community at Wikipedia:Simple_talk#Official_colors_for_Historical_geology.2FGeological_period_articles.2Ftemplates. Majulah Singapura Chenzw! You are a Singeporean, I'm a Sri Lankan. Sri Lanka and Singapore are closed related. Anyway, see you! --Aaqib 22:01, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what you are trying to mean, but okay... Chenzw  Talk  07:56, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

broken images[change source]

I am in the process of finishing up the cleaning up the backlog for broken images. There are pages listed at Category:Pages with broken file links in your userspace. As you are an active user, I don't want to go around editing your userspace without permission, advanced warnings, etc so I am wondering if you could look at the pages in question and clear the errors. --Creol(talk) 16:55, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
