Copying from English Wikipedia[change source]

Thank you for your edits on Wikipedia. While it is fine to copy articles from the English Wikipedia, please make sure to simplify the page or it could be tagged as a COPYVIO edit. Thank you. Examknowtalk 00:47, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[change source]

Hello, thanks for your changes, as per Examknow said, please copy over enwp content with good attribution. I showed you one in your most recent creation and do read the following to make sure you are writting things correctly. Hope you have a nice time here. --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 15:05, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

December 2019[change source]

  • Please do not copy-paste from En wiki without simplifying the language. Don't you think we would get a bot to do it if we wanted copies? Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:08, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • When I copy and paste an article from English Wikipedia to base an article about the same thing on Simple English Wikipedia, I always try to make sure the grammar is simple enough first. When I think the grammar is simple enough, I release the article, then I link it to the English Wikipedia version of the article that already existed. I'm sorry if me copying and pasting from English Wikipedia and not making that language more simple for Simple English Wikipedia bothers you or anyone else, but when I think the language is simple enough, I release the article. However, I can come back to the article to make its language more simple later when I have enough time, which, as of this comment, I have. Childishbeat (talk) 10:02, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:28, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but "Amiga_(record_label)" was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that. Such articles are usually too complex. They need to be simplified before or immediately after being added to the Simple English Wikipedia. In addition, be sure to include attribution on the article's talk page. Thank you. I think I had told you above and in your creation Happy Shopper that we do not use see also and external links (we use related pages and other websites). I had also reminded you to provided attribution and given you an example there too. I really suggest you to clean up all the previous pages before creating anymore pages and read through all that we are telling you. Please go slower. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 09:46, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

First off: It's true I directly copied and pasted "Amiga_(record_label)", but I actually did simplify some of the grammar. You just might not notice it. But if you do notice it, you might not think the grammar is simple enough. Second off: Perhaps I didn't know and think to add attribution to the article's talk page. Third off, I didn't really think about not using see also and external links, as I was trying to publish the articles fast. Because of this, that must have flown over my head. Fourth off: I hope to be better at editing Wikipedia in the future. I'm only an amateur at that, but I do try. Childishbeat (talk) 10:19, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For simplification, I think basically use simpler text. There are some online tools (like Flesch_Reading_Ease score) to determine how easy will be it. For this I think Auntof6 is the best to advice you on. For our style, do replace all see also to related pages and external link to other websites. More in the links I given you in the section above. As of publishing articles fast, do not do so unless you are competent in doing, go slow, there isn't datelines. Lastly, everyone is amateur, I was once. Go slow will be better. I hope you could clean up all existing pages before starting new ones too. :) --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:19, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A couple of specific things I see:
  • Change categories to the ones used here. This Wikipedia don't have the same categories as English Wikipedia (enwiki).
  • Do the same for stub templates.
  • Check the bottom of articles for templates (such as navboxes) that we don't have. You can remove them from the article, copy them here from enwiki, or ask an admin to import them.
  • Check for images that don't appear here. Enwiki allows local images, but this wiki doesn't. You need to find an image on Wikimedia Commons or just remove the image.
For a list of things that are different here, see User:Auntof6/simplediffs. Note that the list there is for convenience: the list itself is not a policy or guideline, but it does link to some relevant policies/guidelines. --Auntof6 (talk) 13:12, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Please slow down your copies from EnWP and simplify the ones you have already created. A recent one, Hallo_aus_Berlin, needs much more simplification. Look out for things like phrasal verbs, idioms, and vocabulary that is not simple. I have marked Glide (API) as complex. And, please think about copying over articles including templates for improvement that are more than two years old. Instead of just copying old templates, it would be very helpful to fix the articles when simplifying them. --Gotanda (talk) 22:56, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Floppotron you created contains red categories and is clearly lacking in attribution. Please provide attribution to all articles in the sense of using {{translated page}} on the talkpage. This is the third time I am reminding you this. Please stop new page creations and cleanup all the existing ones. In addition, you used external links once more. I really hate to say this but if you persist, I might raise it up to an administrator to stop you from creating new pages. I am willing to help you change this wiki, do ask if you need any help. Well wishes, --Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 12:40, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, merely replacing words with synonyms is not sufficient simplification. More often than not, some revision of sentence structure is required. Chenzw  Talk  12:44, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Creating empty categories[change source]

May I ask why you are creating category pages with no content? Masumrezarock100 (talk) 23:08, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop, then go back[change source]

First, several people have told you that when copying from English Wikipedia you need to make the pages simpler.

Second, on the wiki we use movies not films because it is simpler. By creating so many new articles and tak pages you have just created a lot of clean up work.

Third, this is an example of what is not at all simple.

"When Junior, a worm who is eleven years old or twelve years old who is protected too much, accidentally goes up to the surface, he has to go back home, which could be dangerous for him."

Too many phrases and clause strung together with commas.

Fourth, before you make any more new pages, I suggest you spend time fixing the mistakes you have already made. Then, spend time working on making all of you past pages simple. Then, work on simplifying pages other pages.

Slow down. Please stop making new pages. You are not improving this wiki. --Gotanda (talk) 23:11, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:16, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Thank you for creating a new category. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:16, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

. For Worms (movie), better work but again external links is not changed into other websites, categories are inappropriately linked as well as for simple, don't use films but use movie. Unless the formal title is like "The great film" or "2019 XYZ Film Awards", those are fine. I know there is a discussion on Simple Talk for this but let's follow the usual conventions before newer consensus is formed. Please take note. ----Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:24, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And do see what other editors have done to clean up. You just cannot tag a wait and then QD declined and the page is left untouched. (talk page stalker) It's OK to make mistakes, but not to keep making the same mistake after being told about it. It's true that Wikipedia articles can be improved, but that is not a reason to knowingly leave incorrect things in articles. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:31, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I know. It's just I may forget sometimes, and that time I did. I'll admit I did preview the article on Inka Bause before publishing it, but specifically to make sure all categories and templates the article was attached to existed, and I succeeded on that front by using different but still relevant categories and templates. Country American[change source]

Hello, per discussion on Mac talkpage, I am asking you why you are creating these stubs with just a dictionary definition, do you intend to expand? Such pages serves literally quite little value as it doesn't explain the subject well to readers. Can I know why you are creating such pages? Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:31, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

These articles use the page for English Americans, a.k.a. Anglo-Americans, as a template. These pages are just simply modified from them enough to change the subject to be relevant to the subject of the article. Childishbeat (talk) 16:35, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am meaning what value these pages add to this encyclopedia? Does it help people to know the subject? Are you planning to leave them alone and not expand? I rather one or two pages with sufficient details than a whole lot of pages that are not that useful to readers. Regards,Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:40, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested in expanding the articles, just as I would any Wikipedia article, regardless of edition or language, including my knowledge of the language, and also how much they directly relate to the main subject of this conversation, including if they do or not. Childishbeat (talk) 16:43, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So can I recommend you stop creating new ones and expand the 20+ you had created in the past 10 minutes. Thanks much :). Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:48, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Articles with only something like "Albanian Americans are Americans with one or more ancestor from Albania" have been quickly deleted in the past under WP:QD#A2 (under the provision "a rephrasing of the title"). Hello. I see from Obsession (Nudimension song) that you translate articles from the English Wikipedia. When so doing, please remember to say which version you copied. You can do this by clicking on the English Wikipedia page history and then clicking on the date of the revision you copied. Like this. Then put the "oldid=######" into one of the change summaries here on Simple. Or you can use this template on the article's talk page. {{translated|en|Obsession (Nudimension song)|version== [put the oldid number here]}} Since I don't know which version you copied, I can't do it myself.
