RfD nomination of Rilwanu Lukman[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Rilwanu Lukman, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2021/Rilwanu Lukman and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. 512 MB (talk) 17:04, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove deletion requests from articles. If you think the article should be kept, you can comment on the discussion page. If the result of the discussion is to keep the article, the closing administrator will remove the deletion request. Thank you. 512 MB (talk) 17:11, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dan Amari 44. I had a read around your dispute relating to a page you wrote, Rilwanu Lukman, which was nominated for deletion by User:512 megabytes, who in turn twice warned you in relation to that. So I thought to give you some friendly comments in reply.

First of all, I have reviewed your edit history and I can see that you have created pages on two notable people, namely Rilwanu Lukman and Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, the latter of which has not been nominated for deletion. In my opinion, the user who nominated Rilwanu Lukman for deletion made a mistake, as that is a very notable page.

However, I don't think that you should have taken it as a personal attack that it was nominated for deletion. The deletion process is one in which other people who use the Simple Wikipedia get to comment about why they think it should be deleted or kept, and just because it is nominated does not automatically mean that it is going to be deleted. In fact, based on the comments received so far, it looks like the Rilwanu Lukman article will probably be kept. Even User:SHB2000 gave it a weak keep, and he votes delete on almost all articles - even the ones that end up being kept - so for him to give it a keep tells me that it probably will be.

Another thing to note is that a deletion nomination is not a vote - it is a discussion where we give arguments in an attempt to persuade an administrator one way or the other. Administrators then look at the arguments and decide to either keep or delete the article, and if they are unsure then the article is usually kept. There are many discussions in which an article has been kept in spite of having mostly delete votes, and a few where an article has been deleted in spite of having mostly keep votes, including one just last week. If an article is deleted in error, it can be then nominated for a deletion review, which I am tempted to do about that article that was deleted in spite of having mostly keep votes, but I am not sure yet.

So you need to understand that User:512 megabytes did nothing wrong in nominating it for deletion. Any user can nominate any article for deletion at any time if they have a genuine concern that the article might not belong here. If he is wrong, it will be kept, and if he is right then it will be deleted. There is nothing wrong with him doing that. While arguably it could be wrong if he nominated it for deletion just to upset you, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Where User:512 megabytes may have done the wrong thing is by warning you for responding to something that he did. What should have happened is that someone who was not involved (such as me) should have weighed in and decided if it was necessary. I am not an administrator, though, so the best person to decide is an uninvolved administrator, such as Ferien. I saw that you wrote a message on Ferien's talk page, and hopefully he or some other administrator can sort this out for you.

However, and I am putting this last, you did do the wrong thing too, and I think that you need to read this bit too.

Deleting a deletion message is very bad and we don't do that here. Once an article has been nominated for deletion, it has to sit in the Requests for Deletion pages (RfD) for a week while we discuss whether or not it should be deleted. Interfering with that is bad and you can get blocked for doing that.

Equally, deleting the page about it on RfD is also pretty bad.

In fact, all of your reaction to it has been bad.

So while User:512 megabytes may have been wrong in nominating it for deletion, and he certainly shouldn't have been the one to warn you because he was involved, you need to recognise that you did the wrong thing by interfering with the deletion process.

I like that you are writing useful articles about two notable topics, and I'd encourage you to continue to translate articles into Simple English.

You might be advised to learn how to do it properly, however, as one editor expressed a concern that you may have copied it too closely to the English Wikipedia article, which we are not allowed to do. You need to simplify it so that someone who does not speak English as a first language (i.e. a Simple English user) can understand it. There are some tips for how to do that on the Wikipedia help pages.

I am going to assume good faith here and view you as a good user who is trying to help the Simple English Wikipedia and I hope that I am right here. I'd like you to start on this journey by promising not to delete deletion notes or deletion discussions, and to keep on translating articles on notable topics into Simple English, and to learn how to do that properly. I really do hope that I am right and you are a good user as I am sticking my neck out for you a little bit here. Blissyu2 (talk) 16:13, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia[change source]

Hello, DanAmari, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

If you would like to test Wikipedia, please use the sandbox. Please do not test Wikipedia by editing its articles.

Good luck and happy editing! · Blissyu2 (talk) 16:15, 16 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
