Using the {{stub}} tag[change source]

This has already been pointed out once - so I've put my message at the top just in case you missed the first.

Hi, thanks for your contributions to this Wikipedia. Whenever you write a new article, which is small and could grow, please could you put the following text at the bottom:

{{stub}}

This will tell people that this article could be made bigger and better by adding a note to the bottom, as well as adding the article to a special category containing stub articles. Thanks for reading this message; I hope you enjoy being a Wikipedian. -- Marknew 10:59, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Hailey C. Shannon~simplewiki, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing!

== I appreciate the work you've been doing, but can I make a couple suggestions? You seem to add a lot of new articles, but they tend to be very short, don't use Simple English, and sometimes have a lot of spelling errors. This may make a lot of work for other editors later, and there aren't very many of us here. Have a read about how to write Simple English articles and don't feel obligated to fill in gaps by creating a lot of new articles. It will happen over time. -- Netoholic @ 21:08, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

To be more direct - do not copy articles directly from the regular English Wikipedia. It is a violation of our licensing and it creates more work for other editors and admins. If you continue, you'll be blocked from editing. Please work on one article at a time, simplify it, clean up your spelling, and then move on. -- Netoholic @ 08:01, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Your contribution to Hummingbird was not original, and copied from antoher website (like this). I have deleted it. I understand that you wanted to fix that article, but copying text from other sites is not allowed. -- Netoholic @ 07:25, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I think you've been warned enough, so have been blocked for 12 hours for continuing to copy material from other websites ([1] [2]). We welcome your original contributions, so please avoid this in the future. -- Netoholic @ 01:28, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi Hailey C. Shannon, I appliciate your industrious work, but wouldn't you like to improve your edits? In my opinion Wikipedia:The perfect stub article has many good suggestions toward you. Specially it is better to write two or three sentences rather than only one article. And you will be appliciated to add a stub tag, like {{stub}}. It helps us to find articles which we need expand. Cheers. --Aphaia 17:21, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Hailey. I'd like to thank you for the edits you made to "Ned Declassified School Survival Guide." You changed the article for the better. By the way, do you really watch that show? I do, but you're in college! If you do watch the show, get a hobby. Wolfj 20:57, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I am SO sorry for accusing you of stealing. I didn't realize that all that you did was redirect one of my articles to a different article name and add to it. I should THANK you, not get mad at you! Wolfj 21:01, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Categories[change source]

When making a new category, please use standard case, Category:American Musicans should be Category:American musicians. Also, don't create blank articles with only a category link. -- Netoholic @ 19:22, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

By not doing this, you are making a lot of extra work for other people. -- Netoholic @ 03:22, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Every category you're adding is still being done the wrong way. I think we all appreciate your help, but if you don't do it correctly, you make more work for everyone else to fix it. Either explain yourself, or stop. -- Netoholic @ 07:55, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Block #2[change source]

I think you had to see this coming. Since it will take me a day to review your edits and make sure the articles are corrected, it's only fair you should sit out that day. When you come back, read carefully all of the kind suggestions and requests people have asked of you, and take that feedback. Each block after this point will double in length each time you make extra work for us, until you understand how to properly categorize articles and follow our standards. -- Netoholic @ 21:29, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Request[change source]

Hi Hailey C. Shannon, do you consider to add a {{stub}} sag if you create a very short article? In my humble opinion, an article with few sentences nedd to be expanded and a stub tag is very useful to find them. Moreover you create many short article with only one sentence. But in my humble opinion it is not user-friendly. Could you try to put at least two or three sentences when you create an article? Cheers. --Aphaia 19:45, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Complicated articles on simple[change source]

Please try to tone down the "big words". This is the simple Wikipedia. If you want to write complicated articles, please go to en:Main Page. User:24/s 03:02, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Keep in mind that case counts when naming an article. "1983 births" is better than "1983 Births." I have fixed your mistake -- please keep it consistant. User:24/s 22:11, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Please provide a link or description of the source of the images you've uploaded. We also need to know the copyright status (per Wikipedia:Image copyright tags). -- Netoholic @ 05:25, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

February[change source]

You are creating a number of article with the incorrect spelling. February is spelled with two r's. It might be a good idea to type your text in a word processor to check for spelling errors prior to adding them in. --Ricky81682 (talk) 00:57, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Year articles[change source]

Hailey, since you seem to create and add to a lot of the years here, I'd like to hear your opinion at Category talk:Years regarding their structure. I figure that we might as well work on trying to make things with a basic format or something. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:51, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually now at Wikipedia talk:Days and years. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 19:19, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It also seems like there's a number of films that you're putting in the wrong year. Actually, they're in the right year and in a wrong year, which is how I noticed. I've already removed a few 1981 movies that were also listed in 1982 [3] and removed a few 1978 movies that were also listed in 1979 [4]. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:56, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Just a question. What is the point of these birth and death categories that you keep inserting. Surely if somebody wanted to know the year, they would just go to the year page and look under eith births or deaths? It seems like duplicate information and a waste of space to me, but am open to hearing the argument. (Talk) 11:43, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Timon of Athens[change source]

Hailey, how could you! Writing that post and forgetting to sign it. For shame! Good point though. On a somewhat more serious note, I wonder how much vandalism do you think people will try to get in just before the downtime tomorrow? That should be fun. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:57, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, bout that I thought it signed it for me!

Either way. It's kind of funny. The vandal creates articles on half a dozen Shakespeare plays and mixes up Timon and Pumbaa. What are they teaching in our schools?? I mean, it's kind of a more cultured vandal than most although he's last couple articles just seemed like a free-fall into something pent-up. Interesting still. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 02:09, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hailey, please don't call people names, even if they deserve it. -- Netoholic @ 06:29, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I just wanted to comment that I appreciate the additions you're making here even though I'm just a newbie to Wikipedia. I hope it didn't look like my edits have been criticizing you personally or anything. I've just been trying to catch as many typos as I can, including my own! (For example, I'm glad you added some states -- I hope my edits didn't look like I was nitpicking.)

Anyway, thanks for all you're doing to support this Wikipedia. cheers, PhilipR 21:33, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Revert summaries (and thanks)[change source]

Thanks for catching the vandalism on Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Community Portal. But, hey, claim the credit for your good deeds by saying so in the "Edit summary" text entry field. I've seen people type in "revert - vandalism" or shorter "rv - vandalism" or even mention the page version they are reverting to. That way we can know someone trustworthy has fixed the problem, and can go back to trying to figure out how to say words like 'fiscal' or 'supermodel' in Simple English. :) Shenme

Thanks for removing old 'sins'[change source]

Looks like I was trying so hard to come up with some better text that I totally forgot to delete the nonsense! Shenme 22:26, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Little more careful[change source]

Hailey, could you please be a little more careful with your work? I'm not sure about the birthday for Janis Ian or the birth year for "Captain" Lou Albano or the death year for Johnny Appleseed. Also, can you please use the edit summaries? It's a little difficult to follow your work. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:56, 3 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Empty year pages[change source]

Hailey, is there a reason you are creating these empty year pages? Since you aren't even putting them into Category:Years, all these are doing are creating more work for me when I get to sorting those into decades and centuries. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 3 July 2005 22:29 (UTC)

I apologize if I was a bit harsh earlier Hailey, but all I'm asking is that, if you are getting to these pages from somewhere, based on something, can you add that to the article? The birth, the death, the event, whatever. Otherwise, one can make hundreds of year articles with absolutely nothing in them and that simply is more work for others to organize. Once a number of years are into decades and centuries, I will feel much better about empty articles since somebody else can place them in the right spots if they'd like once the setup is there. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 5 July 2005 08:06 (UTC)

Sorry to keep bothering you, but just one question. When you added to 1872 here, is there a reason for that note "For the sake of NPOV please retain this version"? Frankly, I'm just curious since there is no article for Goce Delchev at this moment. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 4 July 2005 05:10 (UTC)

Overview[change source]

Hailey, a number of points. I believe I've asked you numerous times to add the proper categories for things. If you are creating new year pages, please add them to Category:Years if you are not going to add them to the proper category, decade, etc. I do not wish to have to go back through and try to figure out which ones you've created. Also, why are you adding so many things for the decade categories (like the 60s, 70s, 80s etc)? You can see the categories are for the years, etc. I guess I can create a category structure for the movies, tv shows, etc that you are putting there. Another question: why did you change the link at David Ogden Steirs? There is no article at that page (it's not spelled correctly for one reason) which will make it more difficult to correct later one. If you are going to add to articles like at October 31, you need to at least try to simplify them. Leaving text like "In an effort to try restore investor confidence, the New York Stock Exchange unveils a fifteen-point program aimed to upgrade protection for the investing public" just creates more work for other people. It also looks like you still haven't correctly the errors I pointed out to a few weeks back. Last, can you please use edit summaries? I think enough people have asked at this point and it makes it much easier to follow you. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:44, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think I gave this advice before, but I'm afraid I must insist now. While noone expects you to be a perfect editor, we do expect that you won't create more work for use. Go more slowly, and carefully, and you should be fine. The things that I and now Ricky81682 are asking for are very simple requests which you should abide by almost all the time, if you are careful. If you don't know a piece of information, look up the same article on the en: Wikipedia. -- Netoholic @ 05:39, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Because Ricky and I are serious, I need to tell you that your recent few contributions show absolutely no change. I am blocking you for the weekend (48 hours). If you want to intentionally create stubs this is exactly not what we need. You left no edit summary, no category, no interwiki links, no wiki links at all. That article is useless and is barely better than a blank page. Unfortunately, now that it's there, someone may not see that it needs a lot of work.

When you come back, I want to see immediate improvement. The easiest thing to do is to find the main Wikipedia article (en:Lumberjack) and simplify the words.

If you agree to do better, and contact me by email or your talk page here, I will lift the block. -- Netoholic @ 06:23, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[change source]

Hailey, I saw your note at Talk:Main Page regarding the vandal. Look here for what to do the next time you see something like that. You should simply revert it yourself, quickly if you can. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:18, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New year articles again[change source]

Hailey, I thought I made it clear earlier that if you are going to create new years pages, you need to put them into the correct categories, or at the very least into Category:Years, so that other people can find them. You are again simply making more work for other people. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:49, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Year articles[change source]

Hailey, just another reminder. Put the articles into Category:Years. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:08, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hailey, I thought I made it clear before. Put any new year articles you create into Category:Years. If you aren't going to format them (and that's fine with me), don't make me have to go wander around trying to find them. I don't think that's an unreasonable request. I do want to thank you for your help fighting vandals. If somebody goes on a streak of vandalism, you can just put a note on their talk page. That usually stops them for a least a little while. Since the rules require at least a warning before I can block people, if they continue I can put a stop to things completely. A good thing would be to simply put {{subst:test}} and sign it (I would like to have a date/time reference to see). It simply pastes the test template on their talk page. The "subst" page makes it a stamp instead of a link (it's doesn't really make that much of a difference in the end). -- Ricky81682 (talk)

Lewinsky scandal[change source]

Hailey, what is your issue with Lewinsky scandal? Is there something wrong with the article? From now on, I want you to write {{delete|...}} with your reasoning instead of the "..." so I know what you think. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:37, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

64.167.214.18[change source]

Hailey, why are you warning this user? He hasn't done anything wrong. You need to be a little more careful with your warnings. Also, you still haven't answered my question regarding Lewinsky scandal and still need to remember to put your new year pages into Category:Years. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 06:25, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[change source]

Hailey, you have continued to ignore me for a while now. You still will not put year articles into Category:Years, and still haven't answered me about warning people inappropriately. I am going to block you for just a few hours to show you that I am serious. These are not terribly large requests. If this continues, I will simply block you for longer periods. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:38, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for remembering to add the category. Sorry it took so long to fix the vandalism on your page. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 18:14, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am mad about what has happened just right now on Template:Wikitopics--a user by the IP of 72.49.19.124 (contributions) has vandalised it the same way a certain, infamous trio did way back this summer.

I cannot take it any more!!!

Either I need to be an admin to help protect this template soon,

Album categories[change source]

Hailey, since you seem to write a lot of the music-related articles here, I wanted to check with you about the albums categories like Category:1972 albums. I can create a framework for the category structure, but I probably going to put them as subcategories of Category:Years in music like at English, which also allows articles like 1972 in music to have a place. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 00:51, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I was up late and thought I'd stop by; haven't been here for a long time.

You might want to add something on that film's star, Charles "Buddy" Rogers. Mr. Rogers was not only an actor but a jazz trombonist and a huge benefactor and philanthropist out where I live. He helped found a unique all-volunteer symphony orchestra in which I was principal trumpet for a bit, that is, until I got sick of the politics and quit the group. Anyway, the orchestra was doing a gig he happened to be at...and he just happened to have his trombone with him. He got it out at the intermission and I joined in a little jazz improv with him and a couple of other jazz players. I will never forget that! - Lucky 6.9 08:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hailey, I took a look and it looks like every single page has been vandalised on your wiki. I'll block the IP over here. Archer7 15:38, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted about 130 vandal edits on every page of your wiki. There are still a few things that you will need to do:

  • Block User:Hailey C. Vandal
  • Block the IP responsible, 83.146.55.85
  • Delete Image:Hailey C. Shannon.jpg
  • Delete your user page or replace it with something less insulting.
  • Delete the user page and talk page of User:Hailey C. Vandal.

Most vandals vandalise because they think no-one will notice, or because it will annoy people, but that vandal was pure evil. Archer7 17:22, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also reverted some of the vandalism, but I did it before I thot to create an account there, so it all shows as IP/anon edits. Freshstart 19:18, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your new articles[change source]

I see you have gotten repeated warnings in the past regarding new articles that you create. I am reminding you that the format you used on Hermit and Dance music is not helpful. Categories and interwiki links are important parts of articles. I am going to delete them because you have been warned in the past and I am considering the creation of those articles as little better than vandalism. If you genuinely would like to create a helpful article, you can recreate them and I would be willing to help you learn to create a good stub or article. Don't forget to categorize articles you create and add interwikis (you might want to copypaste the interwikis from the enWP article).--Lights Deleted? 02:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Fell on Black Days (talk) 19:40, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Helping with a research project in Simplification[change source]

Hello Hailey,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,

Philippe Laban
