I just wanted to say, brilliant job with the music page. It was quite sad before, and you've written a really helpful, accessible article -MBlume 01:09, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I'd done that myself =)

I was looking at the French article on music, mainly to see if it was linked here, and the image was there. The image doesn't belong to any one wikipedia, it's in the commons, so I was able to just insert a tag and put it in this one -MBlume 21:26, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[change source]

The ther option you have:

  • gallery... /gallery (as a html like tag). Images the are: Image:... | Description. This is used mainly whehn there are many imahes with little text.

Barnstar[change source]

You have done a great job with all of the music articles and you thoroughly deserve a Simple English Wikipedia Barnstar. This is the fifth one of the project, so congratulations. Thank you very much for all your hard work. Billz (Talk) 17:29, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[change source]

There is a section at the top of my user page that has some of the information about the structure I am using to rework the categories. For the most part, Acordian players are pretty much out of luck. As you pointed out, there isnt likely going to be enough of them to get a category, let alone a country based category. Violinists is currently only at 6 total, so its not a large threat but it could get there eventually. Basically, once there are 3-5 similar articles (Violinist who are all English for example) then it is time to create a sub-category (English violinists) and connect it up (connects to cat:Violinists and Cat:English musicians).

Large categories like Composers realy did need to be cleaned up and with so many there were many with similar connections (same country) so subcats were do-able. There are still some composers left in there, mainly because there is only one or two from a country - not enough for a subcat yet. If there is enough pages with the some connection, and its a viable connection (cat:Blond composers may not be a good idea) then go for it. Something like Cat:Composers by period with subcats for the magor musical periods would be a workable idea so long as there are enough article to be placed in a period. And not all periods need be done at once. If there are only enough for 1 period, you could creat that period (Baroque composers) and link it to composers and then when you have 3 or more categories for periods, you could make them subcats for cat:composers by period.

All categories with a large number of entries with something similar realy do need to be split up to help clean. Wether it be people, animals, sciences or tools, subcats help make things easier to deal with in the long run. One thing to remember though. (Almost) never but an item in a category and a subcat of that category (Cat:English musicians and Cat:English composers). Alway put it in the lowest category. And if you know you are going to need a category soon, its not always a bad idea to leave a redlinked category on a page. If you know it will get the 3 articles it needs, Its often easier to tag it now than to hunt it down later (this is a big thing with birth and death cats)

Have fun, and if you have any cats questions, feel free to ask. -- Creol(talk) 10:01, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A part of the um.. Joy of categories is that everything has to be done by hand (well, bots can do it to, but thats not the point.) In the current case, just tag the 2 categories that are mistakes with the QD template with a reason that they are not needed categories (deletion rule C1) .

Changing the name as far as I know is not possible. Category redirects may work, but that is probably not a good idea. The best way is to re-edit each page in the category to the correctly named page, create the category page with cat-links as needed (most likely the same as the old category page - just copy/paste it), then tag the old category page for deletion if it will not be used. If you are the person that created the cat page that is being marked for deletion, taking advantage of the deletion rules (G7 - creater blanked pages) will remove the duplicate-like entry from the cat they both link into. Removing the category link from the page and leaving it with just its description (if it has one) and the delete template can help prevent confusion. -- Creol(talk) 12:39, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

High and low[change source]

Actually, "you" was in that article 10 times. 6 times in examples, 4 times in explainations. All 10 times it was a fairly easy to just shift the context a little or go with a slightly different example to remove the you. (ie. His opinion of her rather than his opinion of you) Unless you are talking directly to someone, "You" should never be used. As an encyclopedia, there are very few cases when we should be writing as if we are talking to someone (talk pages, policy pages, maintenance templates, etc being those cases). There is almost always a way to work around using the word "you". -- Creol(talk) 01:23, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged the article with the cleanup tag mainly do to the layout and lack of a strong defining openning statement. The first line of any article should tell the reader exactly what the subject is. The rest of the article is there to fill in the details. This article didnt have an opening statement. It also lacked format. The information was there, but just didnt flow well. I went through it, cleaned up the intro and reformated it extensively. Not the greatest thing in the world (most times I am just happy to spell everything correctly) but a much cleaner layout. -- Creol(talk) 16:17, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, are you administrator, much easier to become on simple wiki? Anyways, chopin said only he knows details on his birth, was he born 1809., he claims March 1,but baptismal certificate clearly says 2 22, may be he was baptised on march 1 and that's where confusion comes from, baptised, born in Christ on that day?

Second person articles[change source]

Hi, I was tagging a ton of articles today which included sections writen in the second person and happened to notice a good many of them included articles of a musical nature. You, being are resident music expert when it comes to creating articles, were my first thought at noticing how many articles dealing with music theory got reclassified as needed shifted to away from 2nd person. I double checked and confirmed for a good many of the articles in question, you were the creator so I wanted to just drop you a note about trying to keep a little extra attention on trying to avoid using 2nd person pronouns (you, your) at pretty much all costs. Encyclopedia's should (almost) never talk to their readers direct, and that is what 2nd person does. If you would like a list of the articles in question, just check out Category: Articles in second person and look for the article in your area of expertise here.

Not using second person can be difficult at times, and correcting the issue can take a bit of practice to learn to not use "you" when it seems natural as well as way to say the same thing without needing the word (for example; "When playing the piano, the fingers should be put on.." vs "You should put your fingers on.."). Any help in not letting this problem continue to grow (someone will have to go through all the articles I recently tagged.. probably me..) would be greatly appreciated. -- Creol(talk) 07:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First person[change source]

Nine times out of ten, using first person is going to be coming from either someone stating their opinion (likely earning a POV tag) or Original research (not sure we actually have on for that..) Either way, it is usually best to just revert/delete out any info added this way as it is against policy either way. I cleared out the edit, and went back and cleaned up the one paragraph that had You's in it. -- Creol(talk) 15:41, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New categories[change source]

Just something to point out: when creating new categories dealing with people groups (Austrian poets for example), you are most likely needing to link it to at least 2 categories above it. Generally it is kind of self explanatory: Cat:Austrian poets = Poets, from Austria (Austrian people) so it links up to Cat:poets and Cat:Austrian people. Weird corner cases will always exist (poets are writers, so a person should only be listed in one, but what if he is both a poet and an actual writer??) but generally, linking to the applicable 4 basic categories/cat-trees for biography articles (born, died/living person, reason(s) for notablility, nationality) is usually best. -- Creol(talk) 07:07, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check User voting[change source]

With the ongoing situation of vandals and their sock puppets disrupting Simple English wikipedia, a discussion has been going on about selecting users here to act as Check Users to help identify the people who are causing the problems and take actions to try and prevent them from causing more. For any wiki to allowed to have users with Check User ability, that wiki must vote on users and come up with a 70-80% approval with 25-30 votes. Simple has a small community of dedicated users, so we need all of us as a group to come together to make this happen. Many of our editors are not entirely interested in what goes on behind the scenes here, they are here just to create good articles. There is nothing at all wrong with this, but at this point in time we need each editor to take just a few seconds and visit the Requests for Adminship page and cast their vote for any or all people who they are comfortable with giving Check User access to. Each wiki needs two members who are accepted by the community to hold this position to help fight vandalism on the wiki.

If you have any questions about what a Check User is or what their job is, please feel free to ask any of the admins (or look at the information on Check User on Meta.wikipedia.org), but please take a moment and voice your opinion in the votes to help us deal with this ongoing situation. -- Creol(talk) 07:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In response to your question, I actually just copied the source from English Wikipedia. I suppose I wasn't paying much attention when I did it. Berlioz as a GA?[change source]

Hello there, thanks for all the nice music articles. I just stumbled upon Hector Berlioz, and I think the article has good chances of becoming a good article. Just wanted to leave you this message, before I nominate. --Eptalon (talk) 20:34, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If I nominate, I wont before new year, because people are likely not around; as to the red-links, they are few, and imo acceptable for a GA. For VGA, it looks a little on the short side to me. I think the reason I found it was because I wanted to port en:Symphonie fantastique, but left that (I did not study Music), as too much work for now (at least for me). Peorsonally, i think as it is it would probably stand a chance at GA. And ye,s Merry Chrismas as well. --Eptalon (talk) 21:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flooding RecentChanges[change source]

Hi. I have given you the bot flag for now as I can see you are making many small changes to the wiki. We appreciate your contributions. If you could, when you are about to do lots of changes like this to the wiki, try and find a bureaucrat to turn the bot flag on for you so that your changes do not show up in the RC log. This helps us fight vandalism to the project and see other problems as many people watch RC and a flood of many good changes can make it harder to see what is going on with the rest of the wiki. If you can't find a crat, don't worry too much, but if it is possible to find one, please ask. After you have finished you can either ask a crat to turn it off, or the crat can just do it when they notice you've been inactive for a while. Helping with a research project in Simplification[change source]

Hello Hikitsurisan,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,
